The dude that the movie is based on is a close personal friend of my girlfriend and an even closer personal friend with her best friend. I've hung out with him many times and he is a riot. He has so many stories it is crazy. He is a riot to hang out with. He'll drink you under the table too. He is a really nice guy though, loving father of two.

Always laughed at the movie, but never knew it was based on a real person? How much of that is actually accurate? It seems quite bizarre to be very realistic (At least compared to my reality ).

The character was based on him, not necessarily the events that took place in the movie, but I believe some to be accurate.

In the DVD the Coen bros say its based on a real person but they never say WHO.

One thing that caught my eye while watching it in the fall... As he's signing the check for .69 for milk and watching bush on tv the date was Sept 11. 91. I dunno, kinda spooky when i first noticed it.

OMG! mjcohen! You say that you believe some of the events in the movie are to be true?!?! If so, do you know which were true? I'm so into the movie that I'm just really interested as to what really happened to this guy!

I've recently moved out of LA to Menlo Park, so I'm not sure when I'll see Michael(Dude) again. When I do see him, I will ask. Until then, stay tuned.

You guys are missing the single best line in the movie! You know, the preposterous LogJammin' video when the guy waltzes into the apartment and announces, "Minah dispatchah says der iz a problem wit dinah..... caaaahble?" and has that nihilist look on his face.

Masters of dialogue and nuance... the Coen brothers. I wouldn't put Lebowski up there with Raising Arizona, but it had a subtle appeal that made me want to watch it again.
