Blackfish
Saw Blackfish this weekend. It is probably in my wheelhouse, I am kind of a big softy when it comes to animals, especially sea critters. "The Cove" might be in my top ten favorite movies. So this movie might not be for everybody.
It is essentially an activist style documentary about the harm of keeping killer whales in captivity and it is centered around the death of a Sea World trainer at the fins of a large male named Tilikum. The movie is an hour and a half long, and that might actually be on the long side of where it should be because it makes the same point one too many times, but overall I liked it.
There are a few times where I personally got a little verklempt but you could hear lots of sniffles in the audience. It is not at the parts where they talk about the accidents that happen to the trainers, but they are at points where they are talking about the treatment of the whales. My wife who is numb to this stuff had a nightmare about one of the scenes in the movie, that was for me the toughest part of the film.
It is good and interesting but not great. Brought a friend who could give two sh*ts about animals and he was bothered by it. I am biased, but it was 8/10 for me. The biggest impact the movie had is to motivate me to get an Alaska trip, or someplace similar going post haste to see them up close. They are beautiful animals.

My bad, actually airs Thursday the 24th, and a few more times during the week. CNN was a funding producer of the doc, so they will probably air it every so often.
