Default The Bridge

This is a powerful little film to watch. A camera crew setup on and around the famous landmark (SF Golden Gate Bridge) durring 2004 and recorded several jumpers and interviewed their friends and family afterwards.

The wonderous span is highlighted by a bunch of great shots in and around it, of people enjoying life...then there is the small dark shape falling and a large splash.

Jumpers info: 24 jumped in 2004, men, woman, etc. mostly mentally ill with serious problems. jumpers hit 120 mph on the way down, reach 50 feet under the water and once they step off it is all over. There was one survivor they interviewed, showing that when your numbers not up it ain't.

I wonder for many who end up this way if it is not the best solution for them? Not that suicide is a solution i would recommend, but with some it appears to be the only choice, sooner or later. such is life.

Mental illness, usually organic disorders, can be extreemly difficult to live with for everyone around the subject and for the person suffering it can be a nightmare of depression and failed attempts at medication. Some have said a gun in messy, pills are not certain, but one step off the railing and it is over quickly. The bridge is high drama for those who need it.

No gratuitious stuff, but you do see several people jump off. If you have ever been on our lovely bridge it is very high, the currents are very strong, there are sharks, and this happens all the time. There is little that can be done, the authorities respond quickly and some are saved if they pause to ponder long enough. But anyone can walk the bridge durring daylight, it is a very cool place to take a stroll and countless people do it every day.

This is well done, except for the lingering interviews with friends and family. Most seem to still be in shock, understandibly, with traces of guilt and wonder. I think there is to much of this, so i rate this film as a 8 outta 10. well worth seeing, but you may never look at the golden gate the same way again.
