Default Bruce Almighty

Greedy, small minded, and uncreative white guy with God's power...not God's wisdom. Typical black guy version of God. How come movies always have a white guy or a black guy or a white girl as "God?" What about asian guy or girl as "God?" This movie is more about funny faces, preachy lines, and a sappy love story. Don't expect this movie to be deep or meaningful, just entertainment.

With an actor like Jim Carrey playing the main role, I don't think the movie was meant to be deep or meaningful. You can clearly assume just by watching the trailer that this movie was meant for pure entertainment.

If Jim Carrey was replaced with an Asian actor, what would be different about the movie? He would still be doing the same exact things - the screenwriter wrote the movie that way.

(my opinion only): the general American public won't want to see Asians in roles other than kung fu, karate, ninja, pearl harbor, or where white guys kick the $hit out of Asians. Amy Tan's novels are perfect examples of why she really sucks as an Asian writer (see http://www.olagrande.net/~webguy/writings/...s/joysucks.html for why Joy Luck Club sucks).

Separate polls on general American population shows that Asians, especially those of Chinese background, are viewed as less "patriotic" Americans than their black or hispanic counterparts. Furthermore, a majority of the general American public feels that Asians are more likely to be "Spies" for their ancestral homelands than other ethnicity.

Historical precedents (Hollywood or in the real world) are perfect examples of what Asians are portrayed as:

1. Good students
2. Hard working
3. Can be oppressed and held against their will without much uproar
4. Can be prosecuted as spies more easily than their white counterparts
5. Kung Fu masters
6. Ninjas
7. Gangsters
8. All Chinese speak the Cantonese dialect
9. All Japanese are Karate masters like Mr. Miyagi

So no, I don't think Hollywood would ever make a movie with an Asian god unless they're talking about Buddhism or Hinduism

Its a fictional comedy movie; nothing more or less. Be entertained by it or not. It's not about Blacks, Whites or Asians.

The bottom line is the movie is very funny. I just got back from seeing it and I had tears coming from my eyes 'cuz I was laughing so hard. The love story part kinda took the fun out of it but it was still good.

I agree. What's with all the PC talk on a Jim Carrey movie anyway?
