Ok, I like science fiction, especially sci-fi that is written for adults and not just lame "Judge Dredd" style crap. This is just a movie set 20 or so years in the future, and people have become sterile. Thats as sci-fi as it gets. No lightsabers, no "force", no spaceships.

Anywho, this movie is bleak. As bleak as it gets. The world is going to pot, violence everywhere. Not a pick me up movie. But I thought it was great. It is about the bleakest happy ending you will ever see, but it was just really well done, and some of the scenes at the end are very powerful.

I have seen a lot of really good movies lately, Apacolypto, Casino Royale, Pursuit of Happyness, Prestige, etc. But I think this one is my favorite. I can't put my finger on it, because it really offers a lousy picture of humanity, but I just really thought this movie was something to see.

Do not let the bleakness of tone of the movie keep you from it. Its just so well done, and can be quite moving at times.

I absolutely agree with you, I thought the movie was one of the best of 2006. I went on a date with this chick and she asked me questions the whole ####ing time about what what going on, just shallow as hell. Annoying...

oh, back to the subject, I like the way the movie was set in the not so distant future and the possiblities of something like that happening are possible

Nice to see somebody liked it.

Most people I know have never heard of it, but they should. Its just so good. I will definately buy the DVD.

The action sequences are worth mention too. The car/motorcycle scene in the woods was pretty intense.

From Entertainment Weekly:

Snubbed for Best Picture: Children of Men

Maybe its harrowing portrait of a dystopian future was more than Academy voters could bear. Maybe its late release date and the truncated Oscar calendar combined to work against it. Either way, the omission of Alfonso Cuar

Interesting story, amazingly well done. I highly recommend it.

I've heard it has the longest uncut shot of any major movie release... Not sure if that's true though.

Oscar nominations:
Best Achievement in Cinematography
Best Achievement in Editing
Best Writing, Adapted Screenplay
