Default EVIL DEAD!

I was a fan of the Evil Dead Sam Raimi/Bruce Cambell as "Ash" movies in high school and college. Went to see the new remake this weekend with some other Evil Dead cult members.

Now as most of you know, this is supposed to be straight up horror, and out with the funny stuff. Even if you liked the original series for the schtick, you may enjoy this one.

I am one of those who likes a GOOD horror movie (the Ring, Exorcist, Blair Witch) , but find that tends to be 1 out of 100 attempts.

This one does go for blood and gore, and no laughs, but all of my crew of Evil Dead fans seemed to enjoy it for what it was. It is not Oscar worthy, but if you take the original story of a group of cannon fodder young adults going into a cabin in the woods, finding the Necronomicon and unleashing some bad juju, this is about as good a job as you are going to get from that plot.

It is not as much scary fear-of-the-unknown as it is make you uncomfortable with some disturbing visuals and cringe at some serious bloody flesh slicing, much with gruesome sound effects. It was fun enough for $7, and if you don't rush out to see it, you might like it as a rental. It is likeable but not great.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm watching it for free tonight with a bunch of Yelpers. This is going to be fun!

I liked it, It was very entertaining. Nice and gory, like OP said, nothing scary but made you cringe.

Saw it last night. It definitely made me cringe. I found the use of duct tape hilarious and I'm pleased to see Bruce Campbell coming back.
