Thumbs down Garden State

WOW!!! I just can not say enough about this movie. If you want to see a movie that makes you think and helps you see what is important in life this is a movie for you. Zach Braff (a.k.a the guy from Scrubs) Produced, Directed and played the lead, and did a great job with all three. Anyone else seen it, what did you think?

My gf dragged me to this movie... I thought it was some lame chick flick but wow it was really a great movie. I enjoyed it very much. Great acting, very funny, romantic, makes you think about life in general.

Garden State was a film that was touted as "This years LOST IN TRANSLATION!" etc...

SORRY... NO IT ISN'T.

There are lots of movies that try to be profound and this one is one of them. However, the acting and delivery wasn't realistic. I had a hard time feeling for these characters and I was really disappointed in the dialogue. There are a lot of pointless parts of this film (like when they went to the peep room of the motel) and the ending was really boring. The storyline had potential, but it ended up going nowhere. The serious parts were pretty lame, I struggled to hold back the giggles because it was so badly acted.

On the plus side, there was a decent soundtrack. The songs were made for what I thought could have been a better movie. Also there were some clever cinematography and artsy shots. However these elements were not enough to save the movie for me.

I give Garden State 2 Stars out of 5

I really wanted to like the movie. Honestly, I did. I'm all for indie films....they usually have better stories and move me. Garden State tried a bit too hard and wasn't that sincere. I didn't feel for the characters! I wasn't convinced, i guess?!?!

A good example of a movie I saw where I was drawn in because the characters were great would be the film "In America". Go see that film...it's a great story with great acting.

I liked Garden Stae, but I also see ChiS2k's p.o.v. . The peep room scene was more of the random ness that lent itself to the quirky nature/humor of the film. It does, however, give a good lok at what our generation is like, the problems and conflicts we experience. Not that we are the first to do so, but its a look. I don't think it is "Lost in Translation"..I DO think it is this decade's "Graduate".

The film does bring up an interesting topic. I think society today, at least here in America, is over medicated! In the last 2 years, I think I know 3 people who are on some kind of antidepressant. I understand that there are some things you need medicine for....but I think nowadays, people rely on it too much. Is it me or it wasn't always like this. Prozac, paxil, zoloft, effexor....are some of the meds some people I know use!

I think doctors/shrinks are signing off way too many scripts for drugs as an easy way out. I'm sure a majority of you out there, know someone who is on these meds.

Just my opinion.... I feel for all the people who need that stuff. Pass the proz...
