Default High Tension

In High Tension Marie and Alex are schoolmates and best friends. Hoping to prepare for their college exams in peace and quiet, they decide to spend a weekend in the country at Alex's parents' secluded farmhouse. But in the dead of night, a stranger knocks on the front door. And with the first swing of his knife, the girls' idyllic weekend turns into an endless night of terror.

I absolutely loved this movie. It's everything i could possibly want a slasher flick to be. I can hear people click the back button now, but just bear with me. Slasher flicks, when they're brought to people's attention, are usually regarded as dumb, repetitive movies with blood, screaming, idiotic victims and a killer who does just as his job title says.

K, here we go with something rarely said, you ready? High Tension is an intelligent slasher film. Wow look at that oxymoron. Really though, this movie is so well done i almost shit myself. After waiting 3 years for this DVD, i have to tell you, this is one of the rare films worth that wait.

The reason this movie is so great is that you feel for the characters, you want to see the Killer done away with. I remember feeling physically angry at this guy. The characters aren't that well developed, but you feel the sadism this killer brings into the movie. The thing i love the most though is the fact that you watch this movie and the protagonist does every dumb thing you could expect her to do, but at the same time, the killer is very smart, and you wonder to yourself why that is...

The acting is good, along with the gore effects and the tremendously original death scene that kicks it all off. Dialog is sparse, and that seems like a bad thing, but really, you're too involved to notice, and when people start to talk again, it just seems really weird.

High Tension seems a good, if cheesy, title for the movie. I watched it with 2 friends of mine and a couple of times i came out of the movie (you do get involved) to look at my friends leaning forward to the screen, deep in concentration. This movie gets you, and it gets you good. Someone watch it so we can discuss, because honestly, i need to talk to someone about it.

i watched the 'cut' version w/ the english dub in the theatre.. and it was just ridiculous. between the subtitle and the poor dub, all flow of the story (and no, there's NOT much of a story) was interrupted.

these "schizo" movies have been made and REMADE. think: identity (w/ john cusack), hide and seek (w/ robert dinero) and Secret Window (w/ johnny depp.) ] beyond the lesbian snips and the gory homage to past horror films.. this was a bit of a 'meh' film w/ too many cliches...
