I'm sooo tired of M Night.. I heard this one markets as a thriller but plays like a fairy tale

yeah, it was entertaining but a bit transparent. could see stuff before it happened, and one of the bits in the last few minutes I thought was incredibly dumb. Overall though, i thought it was an entertaining story.

If you're expecting a thriller (which many people are), you might be disappointed. I thought it was a great movie. From the rottentomatoes forum, people seem to love it or hate it.

Movie critics seem to hate it, and i can see why. M Knight not so subtly bashes on movie critics..i think they took it personally

The dude is a one-trick pony.... kidna like nora ephron. Nora has pretty much the same story line, rotates in different scenery.

Gus Van Sant - Good Will Hunting = Finding Forrester
Nora Ephron - Sleepless in Seattle = You've Got Mail
M Night - They're all the same in formula

I'm assuming he saved alot of money on B-rate actors, a cheap location, and minimal special effects. Spends more money on marketing, gets people into the theatre and disappoints them.

Been there, done that.

This maybe so and time will tell. I think he's a great filmmaker but isnt always the best screenwriter. The problem is he writes his own material and has a little too much faith in it. The success of 'The 6th Sense' probably lulled him into a false sense of security; that all of his stories hence forth would be garner similar praise.

I think he should direct other screenplays and see how it goes. if after 2-3 times the films are still sub-par then we can call him a one-trick pony. And we must remember almost all of the great filmmakers had 1-2 failures...

I can see what you mean about M. Night Shaymalan (or however you spell his name), but not Gus Van Sant. Have you seen any of his other films? Drugstore Cowboy is a great film, and so is My Own Private Idaho. Even his movie Elephant, which I didn't like, is nothing like the movies you mentioned.

I thought it was ok. It was more of a comedy and we got a few laughs out of it. No way was it a horror movie and I also think this is more of a kids movie.
