Default Mystic River

I saw the new effort from Clint Eastwood last night. If you like his movies i.e. Unforgiven, which are usually longer and story driven rather than a lot of action, then you'll like this one as well. The story is excellent with great performances by all the cast (Penn, Fishburne, Bacon, and Robbins).

Sean Penn, despite being a traitor to the US, is a damn fine actor! I can't think of one weak link in the performances

Never been a Sean Penn fan, but I was definitely impressed with how he played that character. Almost as strong as his role in I Am Sam...

I thought all of the characters in Mystic River resonated very realistically and honestly in the movie...a rare occurance in movies these days.

I thought that the movie was done well, and the acting was terrific, but I was not too impressed with the strory. I would give it a 7/10

Out of curiosity, what do you think the story lacked?

I've have to disagree with DFul4d about the 7/10. . . The plot may have been a pretty average. However, the twists were certainly not expected and the way everything came together was excellent (and disturbing on many levels). . . I'd give the film a 9.5 out of 10. . .

Definitely a must see, and one of Eastwood's best efforts.

After watching the movie I felt the acting was superb. And the storyline is good. But I too felt in some areas they dragged it too long. This added to the suspense of the plot but not so much to the depth of the entire story. I actually think it hurt some of Robbins and Penns roles. Still I'd recommend it, even though I wasn't nessasary sold on the ending. Even if it did have to end the way it did.
