Default ROCKETMAN...who doesn't love this stuff?

We just got back from seeing a sold out ROCKETMAN. The crowd was heavily, er, an older demographic no surprise. I admit to being a card carrying member of the late 40 somethings. This is another in the music movie craze we're seeing now.

This tells the story- thru song much of the time- of Elton John's rise from his childhood to world recognized musician. In various pivotal times of his life, the song provided the backdrop to create the mood and frame work of what we saw on screen. We have the advantage of knowing that reality is driving the movie, rather than artistic licence being taken to tell a more riveting but not entirely correct tale. With Elton John able to give insights, I get the feeling that this was more genuine than say Bohemian.

As ever, the music of Elton (as written by his long time writing partner) is timeless and powerful. I really enjoyed this movie as did my wife and son (16). I give it a 9/10. There's plenty of language, so kids under 13 really shouldn't be going to ROCKETMAN.

Watched it on a flight and liked it a lot.

Last time I was in Vegas my wife was busy b*tching to the front desk about something wrong with our room at Ceasar's. (it was fine, she likes to complain at hotels for free stuff) They comped us some high roller seats for Elton John at their theater. We were center stage a few rows back. I always knew a bunch of his stuff going way back and my dad would play a Captain Fantastic 8 track tape in the car on family road trips, but was not a fan. I could name maybe three tunes off the top of my head. For the whole two hour show he played I knew everything except one song. I forgot how prolific he was and was an AMAZING entertainer and second best live performer I have ever seen only behind Prince. I am a big Elton Fan now. He is awesome and the movie is a nice homage.

I owned a Captain Fantastic album as a very young child, I don't recall how I became such a fan at such a young age, I think it rubbed off on me from my older sisters. Brings back memories. I loved him as a performer, he seems like a bit of an oddball drama queen when he gets involved in some situations outside of music.
