Default Shutter Island

was expecting so much more with this movie as the trailer made it look like a really good thriller !

movie is slow and builds up to a very dissapointing climax/twist .

best to wait for dvd .

strong performance from Dicaprio didnt save it.

I saw it this weekend and its not even worth a rental. This movie is really horrible. I know you are thinking Scorsesee and DiCaprio? How could it suck? It does, hard.

My wife and I watched "At The Movies" before we went to the film and both critics said skip it. We should have listened.

During our full screening, three couples walked out at various stages of the movie. Not because of something super offensive, the movie is just bad.

Its pretentious, it has comical over the top melodramatic acting at times, same with the score. It takes forever to get any kind of story going and the payoff is just dumb.

SPOILER ALERT>>>>DO NOT READ IF YOU DON"T WANT TO KNOW MAJOR PLOT POINT>>>>>>>>

The plot is that DiCaprio plays some US Marshall going undercover into an asylum with a secret agenda to find his wifes killer. It turns out HE is her killer and they are letting him play act as a US Marshall, which is his delusion, hoping he will find out the truth and give up his paranoid behavior.

Its done so poorly with akward flashbacks and conversations you want to kill yourself if the movie does not hurry up and end.

END SPOILERS>>>>>>>>>>>

It easily sneaks into my alltime crappy movie list. Very disappointed. I just checked the national reviews and most are very positive. I can't explain why, the movie aint very good. I can only chalk it up to critics brown-nosing Marty, or pretending they "got" something the feeble minded masses did not get. I just talked to two co-workers who went and they did not like it either.

your pretty much spot on Vader1 , it was pretty crap , and my wife though it was really really crap . Some of the flash backs didnt make sense in my opinion .

Walking out of the movie, i was making a list in my head on how many things i could of bought with $34.00 instead of watching this movie !!!

I didn't think it was THAT bad. Not perfect by any means but not terrible. The flashbacks/dreams (and really a lot of the "real time") don't make a huge amount of sense until the end.

I do agree the score was over the top at times making it very noticeable, with huge changes in volume and even going completely silent, just like in horror movies before something pops up. I think if it had been toned down a bit it would have added just as much to the movie without being downright distracting.

Yeah, heard some guy on the radio raving about it.

The only thing I can really point to is a scene from the movie Adaptation where Charlie Kaufman is stuggling with his difficulties as a screen writer. He is talking to his idiot twin brother who has come up with a script for a movie he calls "The 3" in which a cop is investigating a serial killer but it turns out the cop is actually multiple personality and is investigating himself. Its meant to be a joke because of how stupid a plot it is and how crappy Hollywood is for even considering such a dumb movie.

Well, this almost exactly the same preposterous idea as "The 3".

I am glad some people feel they are getting there moneys worth. I could barely keep from groaning and laughing at the film.

But I occasionally watch Starship Troopers for sh*ts and giggles, so what do I know?

i cant believe you guys hated this movie that much.
I think it was great. It really makes you think at the end.
Was he really crazy? or was the island doing secret tests on inmates?...
If you think about it, it can go both ways on every fact... or atleast every fact ive thought of...
