The Sum of All Fears
This is the latest movie made from a Tom Clancy novel. Jack Ryan returns, played by Ben Affleck. I really liked this thriller, good pacing in a well written screenplay. An excellent performance by Morgan Freeman. Well reccommended.
i hear it's quite a departure from the book, and being a huge fan of the written stuff by tom clancy, i was told i'd be quite disappointed with the contents of the movie if i wanted to see a faithful reproduction of the book

I agree with mingster having read the book I found this jack ryan movie a real dissapointment. Nazi terrorists??? What happened to the arab terrorists from the book? Also Ben affleck is way to young to play Jack Ryan I still think Harrison was the best choice.
I was sad to see that they threw away all the background of Jack Ryan from the previous stories, a HUGE disappointment. Also the terrorists' background in the book was much more interesting. I assume they chose Nazis for the movie b/c Palestinian terrorists would touch too close to home for many nowadays, even though it detracts from the story it takes it further into the realm of fiction.
The biggest letdown is Jack Ryan's rebirth. So sad. I love stories that continue on and on...that's what I liked about the other movies is that the character remained the same throughout. Now that he's changed it feels like a completely different story.
It's Tom Clancy for the uninitiated, and ignoring the continuity issue it's a great action movie with plenty of suspense to keep my eyes glued. My mind didn't stop wandering about how much different the book was, though.
