Default There Will Be Blood

This is one of the, if not the, finest movie I've seen in a long time.

Despite what the radio ad told me, it's not Citizen Kane. However, P.T. Anderson has directed something that holds up well in comparison to Kubrick, Kurasawa, Tarkovsky, Fellini, etc.

Daniel Day Lewis doesn't so much steal the movie as makes it. He plays the main character with a transparent conviction that truly grabs you. The other performances are equally as good (though obviously secondary to Lewis').

Though 2:38, the movie moves along at a good pace. Anderson works the camera and the color palattes brilliantly. There are some STUNNING low-light shots (it's advised to watch this in the theater or on a REALLY GOOD video system because of this). The soundtrack is amazing, mostly consisting of new scored music, along with some pieces by Arvo Part, Brahms, and of course the church hymns. The use of the soundtrack is crucial to many of the shots and to the pacing of the acts.

THIS MOVIE IS IT!

O.k. on your recommendation, I am watching it. If I don't like it then I am looking for you, and I will make you refund my admission price.

You will get one of two things back from me:

1. A money order for $10.25

OR

2. A copy of "Leonard Part 6," because it'll be apparent that your taste in movies is different than mine.

I plan to see it but the trailer makes the movie look "uncomfortable."

I can't put my finger on it but Lewis is disturbingly creepy looking.

I am going to be honest, I went expecting a lot but left unsatisfied. I can agree that it was VERY well done and will most certainly will a number of awards, but it just moved a little to slow for me (and I am a very patient person).

My verdict: Very well done, worth the money, but I have no desire to ever watch it a second time.

Saw this 2 nights ago...Absolutely a fantastic cinema masterpiece. As stated, Daniel Day Lewis' acting is some of the best I've ever seen.

I did think the plot developed a little slowly and in odd ways, but overall, was absolutely incredible. Lewis definitely deserves an Academy Award.

Went to see this yesterday and agree on all counts, except I found the music distracting. I think I understand what PTA was trying to acheive with some of the scores however, when they started it felt as if the music was forcing itself into the scene rather than accompanying it or enhancing.

Curious as to what you really liked about the music?

I like how the music guided some of the long shots. Some of those scene shots in the beginning were particularly long, and I felt the music holding some of those shots up and giving them some pace.

Also, yeah, I like that kind of music in general.
