it looks like a great film. I've seen the old original a couple/times and it was good for the time it was made but quite low-tech now. This move was shot just a few miles from my home, so I'm doubly interested in seeing it.

They should have kept the Victorian setting of the original book. It would have been so much better. Same with the original 50's/60's film.

Tripods battling with the dreadnaught "Thunderchild", rusty train tracks in London after just a few days of not being used.

Will the martians be killed by germs?

I can't wait to see what "improvements" Spielberg can make to the original story. An opportunity lost.....

A feel that they will lose the essence of the original by making it a special effects, action-sci-fi extravaganza. Speilberg and Cruise has disaster written all over it!

I hope to be pleasently surprised

I have to tend to agree. I'm worried Spielberg will think he can improve on a classic. You have to remember that in the 1930's the story was broadcast over the radio and half of America thought is being invaded and panic ensued.

I hope they keep it traditional but I think they will say they brought it into the present to make it more accepted by the masses i.e. we made it badly.

war of the worlds was sadly not as good as the book for me.
