April Dragon Ball Run Accommodations - Options
If we all decide we want to go back to Deal's Gap in April we would need to decide if we want to do the standard hotel stay OR another possibility is to do a group of Mountain Cabins.
The best location really seems to be around Pigeon Forge.
Option #1
There are lots of hotels in Pigeon Forge, some of the hotels that could accommodate 40 cars and up to 80 people are:
Econolodge
Mainstay Suites
Music Road Hotel
Country Inn & Suites
Governer's Inn
Ramada Ltd.
Links to most of these hotels can be found at:
http://www.mypigeonforge.com/Hotels-list.asp
Hotel Pros:
1) We've done this before, we know how it works.
2) Everyone is at one location.
3) As in Knoxville, most everything is usually close by.
4) Everyone has there own room to have some privacy.
5) Booking a room is simple, with only a 24 hour cancellation notice.
6) Can be pretty cheap, Knoxville was $69/night.
Hotel Cons:
1) Same old thing, we've done this before.
2) Not very memorable, just another hotel.
3) Not very personable, everyone has their own room where they go to and hide.
4) Can be pricey for what you get, just a run of the mill room.
Option #2
There is a large Mountain Cabin Resort in the area called Eagle's Ridge, the website is http://www.eaglesridge.com/index.html.
I like the idea of putting together something a little more memorable. Before you ask, all the roads to the various cabins are paved.
Cabin Pros:
1) Beautiful mountain views
2) Much more memorable accommodations, really feels like a vacation.
3) Groups of people can get together and share a cabin
4) Some cabins have outdoor Jacuzzi's
5) Price may be reasonable if several people share a cabin.
6) If we plan meals, we may even be able to get together and cook! Which may end up being cheaper than going out to a restaurant.
Cabin Cons:
1) More planning involved.
2) People would need to commit to the reservation.
3) May be more expensive for some who aren't sharing with others.
4) Restaurant accommodations not across the street so we would either drive to a place or cookout at one of the cabins.
As for a meeting place, Eagle ridge has a clubhouse that we could rent which holds around 80 people. Also, we could designate one of the larger 7 bedroom cabins as the "Main Meeting House". The cabins are situated on a 75 acre hillside. We can request cabins that are near each other but they are on 1 acre plots of land.
Let me know what everyone thinks, the cabin idea may work and be really fun!

I like the idea of the cabins. . .
However, I really believe the entire purpose of this type of an event is to enjoy our cars! Drive them as much as possible and then talk with other S2000 owners! I would not be interested in having someone cook or having myself cook as I plan on this being a type of vacation.
How much time did we honestly spend in the hotel? What would we do in cabins together?
I'm not knocking the idea. . .like I said before I do like the "idea" of it, perhaps on a smaller scale, but I believe this April meet may become much larger than what we experienced in September.
Folks are going to be concerned with price. They are going to want to maximize their time on the road with their S2000.
Best thing for us to do is try and find something close to the Dragon and accompanying roads. . .then coordinate lunch and dinner accommodations.
This will truly give everyone the BEST VALUE! Plus, all of the planning and organizing of the last event came with no price tag. An event with this much planning would certainly take more time, more resources and of course more money!
That Country Inn & Suites may be a good choice. I stayed at one of those before on a business trip and was pleasantly surprised!
Also, remember that nearly EVERY S2000 owner washed his/her car so we would really want to headquarter the event with these types of accommodations.
RECAP:
Hotel is close to the actual event activity
Decent rooms under $80 per night
Breakfast included in the morning
Car washing area on hotel property
Hospitality Suite or Salon for meeting/group buys/vendors
Integrated Lunch under $10 per person
Dinner plans with price range of $15 - 20 per person with license to serve alcoholic beverages
This is what I believe folks are looking for in the next event. A good time with some folks that also have S2000's! A memorable drive!

The cabin idea and something different than samo-somo motels sounds neat. Price wise are we talking double a motel room, or even more? A ball-park number would be helpful.

I agree with Airgate on this point:

really want to headquarter the event with these types of accommodations.
Cabins would be nice for a 'family' outing, but we're there to drive (and obviously wash) our toys, so I vote for the typical hotel/motel facility.

dlq04, I'll look into cost on Monday so we have a ball park.
Airgate, I know what your saying. The Knoxville Hotel was adequate for the meet but I was just checking out all the options.
As for dinner at the cabin, I'm bringing my wife and she'll need something to do . (I'm going to hell for that one).
I know that driving is priority but I'm sure that the cabins could be a bunch of fun. Some people may love the idea, others not so much I'm sure but it IS something different.
Check out the pictures at the link I posted, maybe that will make you think on it a bit.
I spend $180 for two nights in knoxville. We had at least 25 rooms which means that the Hotel got at least $4,500. The cabins may be reasonable by comparison. I'll check on it.

A few words of warning about Pigeon forge
1. About the same distance from the Dragon as Knoxville and you would have to drive two lane roads the whole distance to the Dragon. Not necessarily a bad thing- but would take longer to get there.
2. Was in Pigeon Forge yesterday and it was an unpleasant reminder that the only thing more plentiful than the outlet malls is the traffic.
3. Pigeon Forge is in a dry county. Yes they do still exist, believe it or not.

Okay, if people would rather do the regular hotel thing that fine, I just wanted to offer some options.
Maryville looked liked it was the closest, only minutes from The Dragon. How's everyone like the sound of that? We should be able to find accomodations there although we might have to book into more than one hotel if the crowd gets rather large.
