Default Cherohala/Dragon Loop Drive on Friday.

For those of you who will not be participating in the poker run on Friday, I will be leading a drive up the Cherohala Skyway to Bald River Falls, a beautiful water fall near the state line. After a quick stop at the falls, and possibly a few of the more magnificent overlooks, we will continue on to Tellico Plains, TN where we will have lunch. After lunch we will continue to follow the lakes and the Little Tennessee River back to Hwy 129 (The Dragon), down hellbender back to the Dragon.

I would like to start this drive as early as 10:30am (I'm still waiting to hear back from Billman to see if the service on my car will be finished by then), as it can take over 4 hours including lunch. We need to be back at Fontana for 4:00pm for those of us who will be participating in the FCPD run down the dragon.

The nature of this drive will likely be rather "spirited", but you are welcome to run at your own pace. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Cherohala Skyway, it is one of the more scenic drives. The highway ascends a mountain, and it isn't uncommon for the temperature to be quite a bit cooler up there. There are TONS of photo opportunities at many of the overlooks on the side of the road. This is the ONLY organized drive up to the Skyway. Don't miss this opportunity!

If we are go for 10:30 AM, we will meet in the Fontana lobby for 10:15 on Friday morning. PLEASE post if you are interested in participating.

Here are a few pics from the skyway:

WARNING: The Cherohala, with its sweeping curves, will tempt you to ride fast and one of the occassional tighter curves can surprise you. There are more deaths on the Cherohala than on the Dragon. Many of the worst curves have guardrailing that we guarantee you do not want to hit. Emergency help on the Cherohala can be 45 minutes away and then a 30 minute helicopter transport. Please ride the Cherohala with extreme respect and use caution.

For a second I thought you were serious.... but now I realize your were referencing that mountain ascent we embarked upon at DBR last year. Jeez was that a hike! Whose idea was that again? Lets just blame it on Raul.

But for those who might be wondering, you actually drive right up to the falls.

Sweet, thanks Bill! My tires will be well seasoned for FCPD.

So we're on for 10:15 at the lobby in the lodge and a 10:30 departure.... roughly

I would, but I had too much fun on the poker run last year to miss it!
