Cute...but on a more serious note...the amount of adults (and teenagers) who are willing to put up with the Monday Morning Quarterback parents on the sideline, should be commended. The Pandemic cost youth sports a large percentage of officials in all sports (including football and basketball, who never need help).

Add that to the news of officials being verbally and physically assaulted by spectators/coaches/players or, in one instance, murdered by a player (punch to the head), you can understand why no one wants to do it anymore.

I came back to youth baseball, after a 15-year break. The amount of pleading this summer for officials was staggering. I received an email over lunch, from a college soccer coach, begging for college soccer officials. That's unheard of, at the NCAA level!

I understand this was written with jocularity, but as a former Board member of several local youth sports organizations, and seen this abuse first hand, I can be a little sensitive...

 

Well you know referees are part of the game! Why wouldn't you want a picture of one doing their job?
