Default Good Newbie Information

Last April was my first Wake The Dragon and I learned there is one you should or need to have up there for this event. There are no cell towers so the cell will not work until you get near Robbinsville, Franklin or the other populated areas. Last year the wife got pissed because the cell didn't work untill I had to get fuel. Only a two way radio will work but the range is very limited up there. The two way radio is important for information while driving around the area and if you have an issue and need help. The organizers what you to have a great time and enjoy the great roads, people and the event as a whole. Your car should be ready for the road trip and remember we all want to return home safe. Hope you enjoy the fun up there. Later Bama Dave

One more caveat, everyone should leave their ego at home.

Socks! Cushioned sole, O.D. green. Try and keep your feet dry. When we're out humpin', I want you boys remember to change your socks whenever we stop. The Mekong will eat a grunt's feet right off his legs. . . Two standing orders in this platoon: One, take good care of your feet. Two, try not to do anything stupid, like getting yourself killed."

You can usually get cell service at the dam. Also, if you have Skype or so you can make calls from the lodge via internet.
