Default Group Drives

One of the problems that we have at Dragon events, is the lack of people willing to lead drives and be tailgunners.

Really need some people who have been to the Dragon before, to step forward and volunteer to do this.

Most of the drives that are done, are already mapped out and readily available.

Drives need to be limited to 10-15 cars max.... otherwise, it becomes too difficult to keep the group together, too hard to find a place to eat, etc.

Most likely, drives will be limited to 10-15 cars at RTD this year, and will have different start times for each group of cars.

How about doing something different for a change and lead a drive?

I am totally willing to lead FCPD, and TWO other drives. I will ask locally too, I'm sure I can get others.

I have plenty of guys in my crew who will tail gun for me. So let me know what needs leadin and lets set it up.

I think having all drives ironed out in stone by jan 31st is a good idea. This way we can tell our local clubs our plans.

My crew is usually about 20, but we split it so there are two lead guys. The guy midway back keeps the back ten together.

Perhaps a "drive list", or even a drive thread. then we can start to organize.

-FCPD (fluffy clouds and puppy dogs) friday eve, just before dinner/dark
-franklin ice cream run
-bridal veil falls and fotos run
-cherohala run
-hilltops and hollers drive

Please feel free to cut this list and move it to post one, and others can add to it.

Going to post locally now for lead drivers.

I've led my share of drives in NY, have tailgunned others. Will be happy to help any way I can, but with this being my 2nd time down there...a little slack would be in order lol I'd be willing to tackle the Cherohala drive i think.

And the other thing to remember...... not all drives need to go 15+ mph over the speed limit!

A number of people just want to get out and drive... and view the scenery.... you just need to let them know what pace you will be going when you post the drive!

Well said everyone. This year we will have a 15 car max for each drive or what ever the group leaders set as the limit. There will be a sign up for that drive once the drive is full another person should start another drive with their own tail gunner. We are looking to better the logistics for the group drives and smaller group drives is the best answer. The biggest drives are usually after the Saturday morning roll out. Please understand we are trying to make the all the drives better for everyone. A group drive leader with 20+ cars has a hard time getting everyone together and keeping them together for a 30+ mile drive. We have all seen this time and time again. So remember once the drive is full you must sign up for another drive. Later BD

I'll be doing the Franklin on Friday and the Thursday Meet the OKI group drive. I'll need a tailgunner for both drives and an exact headcount so that we can notify (warn) the necessary restaurants on the number of people who will be attending. I'll take a group to Nuttin' Fancy and Cherohala after the Saturday rollout once again.

All of these drives will be posted shortly.

OK people.....

Need a lot of people to step up... start a thread for the drive(s) they are going to lead.....

Billman listed a lot of the available drives...

-FCPD (fluffy clouds and puppy dogs) friday eve, just before dinner/dark
....... has to be Billman leading!!!

-franklin ice cream run (or called Rt 28 drive, maybe come back via Wayah Road?)
..........Ken is leading a Friday drive for lunch at Cafe Rei<s>) in Franklin.....
.....Anyone want to lead a Rt 28 drive Saturday? Start a thread!

-bridal veil falls and fotos run

-cherohala run

-hilltops and hollers drive
...... Florian... you still going to lead this drive?

-stargazing night?
..... Florian... are you going to organize/lead this one also?

With 100+ cars attending, need multiple drives each day.... we need a bunch of volunteers!!!

So... start your thread.... get a list going.... ask for a tailgunner.... ask for other people to lead group number 2, 3, 4, etc so that the groups are under 12-15 cars....

And lets have a bunch of fun!

I know a lot of the people (including Kathy & I).... are getting tired of leading the group drives...

Need some young blood to take over for us....

Don't have to go 15+ mph over the limit....

If you need maps of the drives with the turns.. so you can lead... just ask.. most former drive leaders have them and will gladly send them to you!
