Issues with your room?
Anyone else have issues with their room this year?
Our shower could not be turned off Friday morning.... hot water running, steaming up the room for 1.5 hours or so before maintenance arrived.
Worked ok the rest of the weekend....

I stayed with friends in a 2 bedroom cabin this year, first time staying at a cabin, as I've always done the lodge previously. I will say that it was the Fontana "experience" that I've come to expect from staying there for many years now. Yes, they need to remodel and rejuvenate the place, it's been a long time coming, but from that perspective, I also keep my expectations lower as I know I'm not getting a 4 or 5 star experience. That said, I love the property, love the lodge lobby and hanging out with folks there, so it does have its charm in other ways. Finding a mouse though, different bugs, etc, that's definitely off putting, but when you're buried in the woods, I guess some of that is to be expected. Wifi I'm mixed on, it does make you live in the moment and forces me to do so (I probably wouldn't have the will power to not look at my phone otherwise), but when you do need some connection to the outside world, it can be problematic.
I wouldn't be opposed to looking at other options for our group, but it's hard when you can have everyone in one place and in the thick of all the nice roads right there. I'm sure the new management is aware of these things and hopefully will start to address them, Fontana has a lot of potential and does a lot of things right, it just needs some love in some areas.

We were a bit disappointed with the accommodations. Not expecting a lot, having been there for a few years, but this year was the worst. Dirt on the floor as soon as we opened the door, smell was unacceptable, and no shower curtain.
I understand that they're under new management and it might take a while to get things straight, but it may be time to float the idea of choosing a new location to stay.

We were disappointed with our room as well. It was so dusty and had a mildew/musty smell. A towel and one of the pillow cases was already used. Probably from previous guest — smelled horrible. Requested for housekeeping to vacuum the carpet and it helped a little bit.

We had a mouse running through our cabin... I just expect it from Fontana at this point. I know what I'm getting into after almost 10 years of renting cabins here.
PSA - Don't forget to wash everything you use that touched Fontana in a separate load - don't want to be bringing in bed bugs or god knows what from there to your home

I have already been looking at other locations for next time. The place is a dump. This event was the last time I'll stay there. Cabin had termites, 1-2" roaches, and was absolutely filthy. Unacceptable for what they charge.

When we came in the fall we showed up at 3am Saturday morning after a Friday night concert in Charlotte. We checked in, went to our cabin and there were used dishes in the sink, bed unmade, used towels piled on the bathroom floor. Had to throw everything back in the trunk and head back up to checkin - she was mortified and apologized multiple times. It happens, they put us in a nicer 2 br cabin (which had good wifi near the general store). It was our first experience with Fontana Resort and we understood - it’s a rustic place in the woods. My dad and I stayed in a 2 br cabin for CHD7 in October and everything was fine there as well.
This year we were fine with the 1 br cabin we had but saw many carpenter ants, my wife saw a roach as well. I know it’s been covered before but it’s a bit nuts they have such poor wifi. It is good in a way because it forces you to be more present but when it’s needed it’s needed especially since there’s no cell signal.
Overall the place is fine for what it is but they need to do a better job spraying for pests it sounds like. I’m not sure what other affordable options are out there that can accommodate our group.

Yeah… when I turned on the faucet to wash my hands when I first got in my room (upstairs in the lodge) a centipede came out before the water. Found a live stink bug on the outer sheet on one bed, and a couple roach body parts near the bed near the slider. A roach came under the front door when I was packing to leave yesterday. Several of us had coughing attacks the first night, the carpet could have used a good vacuuming. I opened the glass door to air out the room a while, seemed to help. I know what to expect, heck, I brought ant bait with me after my very first stay there! But this was the worst as far as dirty rooms.

I stayed at Nantahala Village Lodge for two days. Excellent 4-star rooms, but only ELEVEN of them at the lodge. There are several cabins, all now owned by Airbnb hosts. Pool is now new and clean, there is a game room, and outdoor hall for events, and a fire pit with free wood. Restaurant and bar serve liquor and are now open on the weekends. Seasonal labor shortages next year could mean they and the pool are closed before Memorial Day uptick. Tommy's Paradise across the street was a cool spot to hang out. They serve liquor, pizza, and wings. Could be an alternative to Fontana, but it's a smaller venue. The Airbnb cabins could be pricey, but at least they'll be in top shape! I think Nantahala could handle our S2000 group size but not much more.
Room 118 in the lodge was perfectly fine. Only issue was the high water pressure in the shower and sink... if you call that an issue.
Wi-fi was abysmal in the Lodge. In the Lobby, it was fine. downstairs, I would have it when I woke up but lose it almost immediately. It was better at Wildwood and the General Store.
Aaron caught one the new employees and explained...again how inefficient the Wi-Fi layout is and again offered his services, for free lodging,. They have Verizon fiber to the facility. There should be no reason Wi-Fi should be strong and plentiful all across the compound.

Also, I know they have a limited Dish Network subscription which is fine, but the picture is awful and out of the 35 or so channels, maybe 6 or 7 are Dish channels - trying to sell Dish network!
After out stay in October I mentioned to the front desk that the picture was terrible and some channels unwatchable - especially ESPN and we were trying to watch the World Series. The channel kept rolling and looked like they were in a snowstorm lol
