Fontana is getting rough around the edges. It needs a complete remodel at this point. With as many high end cars as I see down there I would think there would be a market for a nicer version of the resort. I’m probably staying at Tapoca from now on. We went went over there for Dinner Friday and it’s very nice.

 

I had no problems with my room other than the Wi-Fi but I was on vacation so it wasn’t that important./

I would complain more about the Camaros revving there engines at 6:15am

 

Our cabin was excellent. The bathroom looks to have been refreshed recently with new waterproof walls.

Other years the cabin has shown wear and tear.

I stayed with friends in a 2 bedroom cabin this year, first time staying at a cabin, as I've always done the lodge previously. I will say that it was the Fontana "experience" that I've come to expect from staying there for many years now. Yes, they need to remodel and rejuvenate the place, it's been a long time coming, but from that perspective, I also keep my expectations lower as I know I'm not getting a 4 or 5 star experience. That said, I love the property, love the lodge lobby and hanging out with folks there, so it does have its charm in other ways. Finding a mouse though, different bugs, etc, that's definitely off putting, but when you're buried in the woods, I guess some of that is to be expected. Wifi I'm mixed on, it does make you live in the moment and forces me to do so (I probably wouldn't have the will power to not look at my phone otherwise), but when you do need some connection to the outside world, it can be problematic.

I wouldn't be opposed to looking at other options for our group, but it's hard when you can have everyone in one place and in the thick of all the nice roads right there. I'm sure the new management is aware of these things and hopefully will start to address them, Fontana has a lot of potential and does a lot of things right, it just needs some love in some areas.

 

Well water gushing out from under the toilet and the phone in the cabin was dead. With no wifi this becomes and issue of security. We stayed at a lodge in Maryville last year and it was excellent. Fontana is now off the list

Looks nice but spending way North of $1000.00 on lodging for a trip to the mountains is just out of the question for many of us.
