Killboy Is Having Fun
Not to rub it in or anything...
Heading up to the Gap in a few minutes to play a little for the first time since the heavy snows in the S2k...been driving the Evo mostly...took it across the Skyway yesterday which was almost completely covered in hard-packed snow and some ice. Made it to the summit only having to stop once! We heard they hadn't really cleared the Gap as of a couple of days ago, but haven't been up there to check it out ourselves. (Been in the Bahamas on cruise) May not even be passable in a rear-drive with summer tires, but we'll bring the Evo and tow rope just in case.

And see you in the spring!

What... they don't clear those busy roads the day of the snow?
Pretty good runs yesterday, road is clear of frozen stuff, just a light haze of salt and a few turns with shallow piles. One turn did catch us off guard though with how slippery it was...like it had oil in it or something. No drama, stayed in lane, just had to work the wheel a bit more than I expected. My friend in a built '94 Civic Hatch said he was spinning like crazy in 3rd gear in it, and this was a 25mph turn at most.
I gotta say, I'm really surprised how easy the S2000 is to drive hard. All I'd heard was how punishing they were on throttle lift mid-turn, especially the AP1s. I hadn't driven a RWD near the limits in many years...hardly ever really. I had a 300zx TT as my last RWD and that was 10-12 years ago, and I lived in an area with no real turns to practice on. Right from the getgo with stock wheels/crappy tires that came on the S2k, I never had any issues with oversteer. Shortly after getting it, I bought some bigger wheels and better tires. I wanted it to rotate and drift more, but my dumbass got a staggered wheel setup, (Rota D2s -18x8/18x9) and did everything I could to get it to grip more in the front less in the rear. Still it would push a lot until the tires got pretty worn down, then it was SOOO fun. (not very fast though)
When we hit the deer, I saw an opportunity to use the insurance money to make the car something radical, so we went for it. The widebody kit drastically increased the space up front for wider/more offset wheels and tires, and gave me the opportunity to go with a truly "square" setup...same offset and width front and rear. I was really afraid this would make the car impossible to control with increased oversteer, but it really hasn't. It's got a little more front grip, but I can still lift off mid-turn and it doesn't do anything crazy. Still pushes just a tad on corner entry if you just gradually trail-brake in, but as soon as you give it the slightest bit of throttle, the tail rotates around with great control.
So far I've only run the BFG G-Force Sport tires on the widebody setup, and they've performed well but I know there is a LOT more grip to be found in softer tires. Really looking forward to spring/summer when I can mount up some real aggressive stuff, probably BFG R1s, and see what she can do. Right now it's not the fastest thing across the Gap that we have, but it's easily the most fun!
