Better bring the wide angles.... hehe. We had some nice group shots at FWT 05, all arranged by color etc... But that was only for about 50-60 cars I think. And the room to move the cars.
We didn't have a 700' dam to use I think Keith actually used a short telephoto?
Actually from on top of the dam I used an 80-200mm zoom with and without a 3x teleconverter.
Wide angle is too far away. Its an odd shot but I can do it. To get all the cars you are a bit far, but to get detail you get a bit too close. Last year it was overcast and the pictures didn't come out as good as I'd like but hopefully this year it will be nice and sunny!
As much as I hate to take the time to do this kind of stuff, it really is a necessary evil. On one hand, if everyone pays and shows, it'll be the largest S2000 meet and must be photographically chronicled. Although a huge PITA, the parade laps at FC '04 do provide an impressive image of the magnitude of the event.
The second part of the equation is that you do get some face time with folks making the larger events more personable. We can all moan-n-groan about what a PITA the group shot is and of course, be the first to ask, " Hey, why haven't the group shots been posted yet?!" when we get back home.
I do not, however, think we should do it in the early morning. Thatis prime driving time. Fewer cars; the mystique of the fog.If we tried too early that same fog might hinder the group photo. I'd think after lunch would be best as most folks would already be congregated. Roll from there in whatever groupings you would like to see in the pictures.
No, I have not been to the Dragon save one time, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
