RTD Drive - Friday's are for Franklin 2014
 

Friday’s are for Franklin Drive; Hwy 28 to Franklin, NC
Drive to the Road to Nowhere, then onward to Franklin for lunch at Caff’e Rel. Continue on to Bridal Veil falls and Dry Falls, then stop for ice cream on the return through Franklin. Finally, take scenic Wayah Road on the return leg.

Departure: Leaves from the lot in front of the Wildwood Grill at the times posted below.

Make sure you bring cash, as the Restaurant does not take credit cards.

Please be with your group at least 15 minutes prior to posted departure time, as we need to leave on time to ensure seating at the restaurant and parking for photos at Bridal Falls. The 10:30am and 11am groups are posted as moderate, but we will adjust speed to comfort and skill level. The 11:30am is spirited, so please choose group accordingly. Let me know which group you want to be in.

I'd like to join.

I'd recommend 3 drive leaders that know the route, so each one can track 6 or so cars behind them.

It eliminates pulling over and waiting, causing a traffic scene, and losing cars.

7 7 and 7 will move smoothly and arrive at the stops a minute or two apart or so.

I can lead a half or a third of the pack if you like.

Are we going to overload Caffe Tel with 21 of us showing up at once? Rhetorical question...

Last year I led a small, experienced group about an hour after the main Franklin drive, to distribute the load a bit. I'd be happy to do the same again this year. I'd probably bypass dry falls, unless most are wanting to see it.

Bridal veil will be a complete mess with 20+ there simultaneously. I'm not sure the adjacent lot has that kind of capacity.

Not a bad idea, however, even in two large groups, we've never lost anyone (not that there hasn't been a time or two when we would have liked to :D). The groups should be about 20 to 30 minutes apart due to the small size of Cafe REL. I can give you the route in about 10 minutes, it's that straightforward. If Andy takes a group, that would work out. I'll tailgun Brian's group, Brian, can you ask Parrot to tailgun for Billman? Andy, any ideas for a tailgunner?

I'll call the owner of Cafe REL next week (an old friend even if he is a Porsche pusher) and let hm know we're coming again (I'm sure he'll be positively thrilled [/sarcasm off] :)
