Default RtD2017 Clingman's Dome (Sat. after roll out)

Sorry for the delay (You know, instead of moving stuff from Asheville to Raleigh and preparing for my first day at the new job, May 1st, I'll be at RtD2017, I have my priorities straight!) but without further a due:

RtD2017 Clingman's Dome Drive:

This drive will leave promptly-ish at 10 AM after the monster roll out for a "moderate when available" drive to Clingman's Dome via the Foothills Parkway. After some sightseeing (Shouldn't it be Site-seeing?) we will continue our trek to lunch at Granny's Kitchen (Cherokee NC Restaurants - Southern Cooking - Local Family Restaurants 28719) because who doesn't love a greasy spoon buffet?? This will also be our gas stop...

From there we have 2 options: 1) Head back the quick way to Fontana or 2) take a "detour" down 28 to Wayah Rd and then over to 129 following Lake Santeelah and the Cheoah River. It all depends on how we are doing on time - I'd like to be back at Fontana around 5 at the latest. If time is REALLY in our favor we could always attempt Dry/Bridal Veil Falls???

Please note: "moderate when available" will more than likely be mostly leisurely - it's a spring Saturday in a high tourist area...BUT if we get some open roads I'll open it up for some fun but be prepared for just an enjoyable relaxed ride...just in case.

Awesome drive! So many good ones to choose from this year. I'd love to join but it conflicts with the marathon Canadian drive :-/

for those that haven't been to the dome…be prepared for an uphill walk…a long, uphill walk. bring water and oxygen.

It's only a 1/2 mile walk on a nicely paved trail!

Granted, you are at 6644ft, 3rd highest point east of the Mississippi...

You don't have to walk to the top, hang out at the parking lot and check out the view and then enjoy the great drive. Some amazing roads.
