I am considering routes down to wtd from Ontario and blue ridge skyway is looking goof. Are the any group drives that come down the east. Billman must come down that way?
Blue Ridge Parkway is a great way to come down if you have 30 or 40 days to drive and don't plan on going faster than 45 mph (70 kph). BRP is a Federal highway and if you get a speeding ticket you go to Federal Court and you have to show up. As much as it pains me to say it, either take interstates (I-81 for example) or local routes that parallel the interstates. Personally, if I were coming from Ottawa (and I used to live in Ottawa), I'd go to 1000 Island Bridge and take the interstate.

Good call that is the best route from there.

Actually, it's really about the only route unless you want to go to Windsor and cross at Detroit and come down that way (which is really out of the way) or go to PQ and come down via I-95 (which is also out of the way).

Billman takes all interstates, or else he would take FOREVER. 95, 85, 40, then arrival on 129. We have enough time to plan a route that wont make us drive millions of miles.

That's the way I go as well from VA. It's easy from Toronto. Just cross the border and take I-79. Should take about 12 hours.

Point one - federal court for a speeding ticket? Good to know.
Point two .we have interstate type roads in Canada. I am looking for winding roads. 7 days running the Dragon is to much going nowhere for me. So I would like to spend a couple on the ridge. Yes it sucks risking a speeding ticket doing 50 mph. But you take that chance the whole time down there
Point three. Rather than race down on the interstate and then look for places to drive why not spend two days on roads that mimick the cherohala skyway that everyone likes to drive?
Of coarse I might change my mind if I get one of those national parks speeding tickets. On the other hand it would be a good excuse to come back. Lol
It boils down to two things. You only want to drive the dragon only or you want to drive every windy road you can find.

yeah but if you get a ticket on the dragon or some other road you can just pay it. the blueridge parkway is a federal highway, so if you get a ticket on it you can't just pay it, you have to show up in court

You can always pick other highways that aren't interstates. There are lots of highways that run north and south that are nice and twisty. Look for state routes (secondary roads). At least there will be a somewhat more interesting speed limit. Take BRP part of the way so you can experience some beautiful roads (watch for deer if you drive the Parkway at night. They're not as bad as the moose in New Brunswick, but they can still do some serious damage), but have a secondary route planned that's off the parkway for when you'd like to cover some miles.
If you get to Deal's Gap/Fontana on Tuesday night, you can go with us to Little Switzerland. You'll get a chance to drive the BRP as well as some much more interesting roads (Rt 80 and Rt 226a. Look for Little Switzerland, NC and the Diamondback Loop in Google maps. That will give you an idea of what we're going to drive).

Dave if we get there tuesday at lunch like my route said, we could do their LSD drive all Wednesday on those routes mentioned. We will be on the BRP 5 hours approximately, that's a long time. This is a vacation for us, not a never get out of the drivers seat week .
