Default Horrible accident

Hi,

last week I had the biggest scare of my life.

I was driving in town on a 70KMH two-lane road with a number of trafficlights. There was an '90 Opel Vectra behind me. He was so close I could hardly see his lights.
It was quite busy so I couldn't go any faster at all.
At the last trafficlights we were behind each other. I decided to drive away full throttle to get away from this guy. After that I settled for 6th gear and was doing about 90KMH Yeah still too fast, but everybody drives too fast overthere. Suddenly the Vectra passed me on the right side (highly forbidden in the Netherlands) and tried to cut me off. But he went left a bit too fast and his left rearwheel touched my right frontwheel. I thought WTF? I had to brake quite hard. He lost control and crashed his car 100 meters further against a tree. The car was completely destroyed and so was he (he's dead).
The bad thing is that all witnesses drove on, so police has to accept my explanation which the technical Police could verify positively.
PLease drive careful, there are some idiots on the roads. My car is not severely damaged, the fender has a small dent and a bit of paint is off the bumber. Further the paint of the rim is scratched. Next week my S2000 will be repaired again.

Glad, you're O.K. This car is like a red rag to a bull to some of the boy racers out there. I'm sure we could all tell stories of similar encounters, but with a less dramatic ending.

I've no sympathy... at least this guy didn't take anyone else with him, but I'm sure it was more luck than judgement!

Thnx Guys,

I 've also put the thread on the S2000 Talk forum. It's not something I can recommend anyone.

That's so true, especially in France where your car plates tell where you come from (in my case 75 = Paris = target when driving in the mountains).

Sorry to hear that Ronald, I hope you're not too shocked and don't feel any guilt...

Ronald,

A few years ago I had a similar accident on the highway. The guy also passed me on the right lane and by switching to the left, touched my car and lost control of his car. He also died in the accident.

Even though I was not responsible I still felt guilty about the death of this young guy (he was 28 years old). And I know how shocked you can be after such an accident.

Anyway I'm really glad you are ok and hope this will at least be a lesson for some.

Sounds like a "Darwin" to me. Let's just hope he didn't have a chance to reproduce. We're all better off with him out of the gene pool.

Hi SUN,

my back is a bit better. Neurologist found it was a beginning hernia.
But luckily no surgery needed, physical therapy should remedy the
problem. Thanks for asking. Well now my car is at the shop for the repair,
hope to have it back by thursday. I'm now driving a Civic loner and
have to adjust my cornering speeds considerable!
