Default Nurburgring Easter 2003

Hi guys

I'll be bringing my beastie over to the Ring for the whole Easter weekend this year. Is anyone likely to be there also, or willing to meet up? I'll be accompanied by a TVR Griffith, TVR Chimaera and probably a BMW M3 for some fun....

Would be good to meet up with any local S2K owners.

Cheers

Ben

I'd go and love to see the TVRs, but I'm stuck in Kuwait.

Maybe someone will plan a meet at the Nurburgring sometime this summer???

Tell us how it goes and definately post some pictures.

Will definately post some piccies for you.

We're planning to come back again over the weekend of 16/17 August 2003 with an even bigger group of cars, so maybe arrange a meet for then?

Cheers

You show some guts bringing the beast to the temple of racing, i.e. the old 'ring in Germany. I just got my new Honda S2000 (january the 8th 2003) and the first day on the road I had to struggle in a snowstorm for 100km, with totally snow-white streeets and highways. Good for me that I put winter tires on (Pirellis, suitable for speed up to 240 kmh) 5 minutes later I got the S2000 from the dealer. It was a hell of a debut, anyway......
Back to us, as soon as I put regular Bridgestone's Potenza on (end of March) and I begin taking the beast to its limit I will be able to tell you if i reach you at the 'ring this summer. At the present moment, there may be only 2 impediments:
A) if i am not able to tame the beast I won't come to the 'ring
B) different holidays planning with my wife.......

Take care

Congrats on your new beastie

My car's baptism of fire was being driven on the Ring when only 28 hours old and with 700 miles on the clock. That was fun!

Straight out of the showroom (Brugge, Belgium), run it in on the drive to the Ring and some additional time wasting in the area - then yeeehaaaa! I had completed the running in mileage within 26 hours of collecting the car. Not too bad!

It feels so sorted on the track - and so it should - part of the development testing was done at the Ring so no wonder.

I'm definately back there at Easter, but lacking the TVR as the owner is selling it to buy an apartment - bummer.

Good luck in the snow, but damn these are great cars!

You had quite a hell of a debut too, I have to admit!
Lucky me snowtime seems over here in Italy, so I can look forward to put back my Bridgestone Potenza on.
The first thing I want to check is my s2000 maximum speed: due to the compound of winter tires as soon as I exceed 200kmh the front of the car apparently loses a very little (but I do sense it!) part of its enormous grip, so I don't feel comfortable to push it to its limit. The Honda dealer himself gave me the advice to avoid such a test as long as I don't have the Bridgestone back on!
Another slight disadvantage with winter tires is that you do lose the tail of the car quite often, maybe a little too often if you face corners with an aggressive attitude. Once again, winter tires days are numbered, so I will stop envying southern Californian guys pretty soon..... By the way, what's your opinion about getting a supercharger for the s2000? I think it's a waste of money since it just allows the car to do slightly better what it already does so good.....it definitely doesn't bring you a much stronger torque where you need it (i.e. before 6.300 rpm) and it allows you to get to 100 kmh just a tenth of a second faster... I just can't believe that most of the guys visiting this site already bought the Vortech supercharger or the Comptech one..... as I said in the forum "what Nature did so well should be kept untouched......" what's your opinion about it?

Ciao!

Andras

Ben, I'm likely to be at the ring before you -- in early March -- but if my travel schedule shifts I'll PM you with my dates. It would be fun to cross paths.

This may be slightly off topic, but I'm planning my first trip the Nurburgring and need some advice. I'm hoping some of the readers of the this thread can help.

Sadly, I'm based in the States, so I'll be doing this without my S. I need advice for hiring a car, a place to stay (I'm planning on transiting in Frankfurt, hiring a car, and spending two nights at the Ring), and suggestions for preparation.

I've orderd a copy of Grand Prix Legends, which I'm told has the Ring as one of the tracks. From the online track map, it's a very, very long complicated circuit, and the videos I've downloaded make finding the line seem like an exercise in memorizing the phonebook...

In any case, I'm open (and hoping for) advice.

With thanks (and apologies to Ben, if this seems like I'm jumping all over his thread),

Morning all

I hope I do get to meet some of you guys at the Ring - not that I'm an expert, but I've driven more than 50 laps and passengered another 40, having done a lot of preparation beforehand, so am more than willing to take anyone around in my car, or sit in the passenger seat of your car, if timings coincide.

I have some very good pace notes that I can email anyone who wants them. PM me for details.

As for hotels, we always use the Berghotel Hohe Acht which is 5 mins from the Ring, costs about 30-35 euros per night for a comfy bed and massive breakfast. The owner, Frank Thelen, speaks perfect english and is most accomodating. The views are also spectacular over the Eiffel mountains. Again, if you want further info, let me know.

If you wanna practise the Ring on your PC, GPL is a good start but there's a game called Sportscar GT that doesn't originally come with the Nordschleiffe, but there is a superb patch that you can download that brings in the modern Ring and it is very, very accurate. I use that a lot these days. Again, lemme know for more info. Its worth learning the curves so you can get the most of the track from your first visit. Its not THAT hard, really!

God, I'm Mr Helpful today, aren't I?

As for superchargers/turbochargers/intercoolers, etc... don't waste your money. The car is DAMN good as standard and I like the fact that its unlikely that the engine/gearbox/transmission will go "boom". I'd rather save my money and thrash the car around the Ring, like its designed to do. Only IMHO, but there you go.

Right, anything else?

Thanks, Ben. You have a PM.

From what I can tell from Google, Sportscar GT is an Electronic Arts (EA Sports) program -- the same company that makes F1 2002 -- but it seems to have been discontinued. I can't find anyone still selling it on the web or elsewhere.

Hopefully, the GPL will give me some sense of the Ring before I find myself staring at the next corner without a clue where I am. :-)

As for the question of turbochargers, I'll stand aside during that debate. My sig. will tell you what I've done, although it won't convey the touch of ambivalence I feel for having done it.

Best,

CB
