2009 SPGP DECAL DAYS!

[COLOR=green][B]OK we expect the decals to be here to me by the 6th so we are going to go ahead and plan to decal the cars on both Saturday the 7th and Sunday the 8th of this week.

...

the available times for both days will be 9am - 6pm.

the events are contingent on two things: the materials actually getting to us in time and the weather. If it is too rainy we cant decal the cars, some rain we can deal with but a stormy day on either day will result in a cancellation.

Please chime in to this thread or PM with your RSVP to one of these dates if possible.

I will be able to decal cars on this coming friday if neither day will work for you but it will have to be at my house and you MUST get in touch with me to schedule...same hours apply

I will put either a SUN or SAT next to your names as I get word of your RSVP.

SAT = Zephyrhills
SUN = Largo

****IMPORTANT: If I do not hear from you in some way and arrangements are not made to decal you on one of these days (or another day that is as close to those days as possible)...I will have to skip over you and choose an alternate to fill your spot. If you cannot make either day please try to make arrangements to get your car to me on that friday before

after this weekend it will be difficult to accomodate anyone's schedule conveniently.

I have colors of your cars next to your name. This will help us determine what color decals go on your car. parade lap cars get first dibs on color assignment of decals since they are the main cars used in the event. If you have a light colored car and are not in the parade lap group I cannot promise that you will get the necessary color combo for your car. we will do our best

FYI,

Scott was gracious enough to volunteer his place instead of mine given that he has more space and shade to work in. Thanks, Scott!

I will decal my car at Scotts and be there all day to assist.

Come on guys don't make Rob work so hard on Sunday make the drive out to Scotts.

bring stuff to dry and quick detail your cars (whatever you regiment is for drying and final detail if any) I will have a washing area setup for rinsing/washing and then we cna move your car out to dry it off and hopefully minimize the need to detail the again.

the wet application technique is really the best fail-safe method for getting the decals on the car. the drying time and peeling time may vary and the residue sucks but hopefully the washing station will rid us of residue issue

I will also have my shop vac which doubles as a blower so that will help some of you dry the cars faster. I suggest buying one or two of the "THE ABSORBER"s those things are fantastic as far chamois go.

liquid_iq 03-02-2009 04:30 PM

in for SAT

SortaRican 03-02-2009 04:38 PM

You may already know this trick, but I was thinking about adding some rubbing alcohol to the wet solution as last year it took forever to dry. Do you think it would hurt the decals?

i do not know what the effect would be on this type of vinyl. it is different than the normal stuff you get as far as other decals go....so...I would steer clear of it just to be safe. I will mix very low levels of soap in my spray bottles and use it sparingly since I can basically put these things on in my sleep.

JAX AREA PEOPLE - I'm having 4 sets (2 of the white, 2 of the black) shipped to my house. Chime in (best to PM me) if you need to pick up the decals from me or need help applying. I'm no Rob but in the past 5 years of doing this I've done a few including the Ridgeline twice.

The house is off limits this weekend because Sandy is having 6 groups of kids over here for some FCAT tutoring plus Chase and I have opening day at the baseball park Saturday. If need be we could probably meet up at the subdivision pool Sunday since it has a decent parking lot. I could bring my 10' x 10' tent for shade. We'll make it work. No worries.

Shay

BTW - I live in the far NE corner of Jax for those that haven't been out here before. Literally on the Duval/Nassau line, pretty much due East of JIA. I think we're only having 1-2 cars from up this way so the BIG parties are in the Tampa Bay Area which is the obvious concentration for the HGPSP. Rob and Scott will have a couple dozen cars going so it might be worth the trip for a day with those guys vs a quickie in Jax but the offer stands and I'll be glad to help out anyway I can.

XScarAudio 03-02-2009 05:26 PM

I'm in for Saturday at Scott's house. I'll shoot pics also. What time is best for everyone? Early AM = more pics :)

zacksdad2 03-02-2009 06:49 PM

For those coming out to my place on Saturday, I can set up three seperate car wash stations on my property. I also have two seperate 2-car garages so we can do everyone's car inside with the natural lighting and yet, the shade for proper placement and installation. I believe the day is supposed to be somewhere in the low '80s and pure sunshine. So, is should be a perfect day.

There is the annual Celtic Festival in town (this is pretty neat if you've never been to one...) if you want to hang in the town afterwards and also, the first Saturday of the month is the Dade City Hot Rod/Classic Car show that begins at 5:00.

Come just for the decals or, make a day out of it. Either way, I look forward to seeing y'all on Saturday.

Scott

How hard is it to take these off post-SPGP? I'm assuming they are paint-safe and all since you guys have done it in years past :)

RXDI 03-03-2009 09:17 AM

They pull right off. No problems with paint.

Piece of cake unless you have repainted/recleared; a few have had pealing issues. All of mine have come off without incident...

J

XScarAudio 03-03-2009 09:20 AM

Cool. Car hasn't been repainted that I know of.

PrimoGen 03-03-2009 09:50 AM

they are low tack and easily removed in the sun or with hair dryer.

touch up detail where the imges were to get rid of edges where dirt may collect and residual adhesive = no biggie

Sunday

BORT617 03-03-2009 10:13 AM

i had new paint right before last years decals and it didn't damage the paint at all fwiw.

Never Quit 03-03-2009 11:06 AM

The S has been decaled for the 5th year now and it was repainted July 2004 but never a problem. The Ridgeline has been decaled twice including last week and no issues either. Like Rob said you might have some gunk build up around where the decals were but nothing a good washing and perhaps a detail spray won't remove in our experience.

Best of luck all,
Shay

Remember to take LOTS of pictures and post on ONE thread so I can share the link with the big wigs please. Thanks!!!!

I suggest two threads, one for the decal events and meets then a separate for the actual SPGP events.

SiCK HONDA 03-04-2009 01:41 PM

This may be a DUMB QUESTION, but...

For those of us that are ALTERNATES for the parade laps-- What happens if someone can't do it?

Do we just need to be "decaled" before the Thursday event?

I am assuming that the promotional decals are used for the Thursday parade?

PrimoGen 03-04-2009 01:49 PM

yes, you got it right

I should have a few extras after the cars are done this week and if we have a late drop out I will make contact with the alternates ASAP. when I find one willing to do it I will have to make extreme arrangements with the alternates to fill the spot. the person willing to fill in must be able to meet me ASAP and get the car decaled. the crew that comes on site to do decals would have the ability to make more but they are never there earlier than usually the friday before.

I will have extras but if we have a slew of drops then we will have to petition indy to send more declas as soon as possible

if they want more cars on the days of the events (has happened in years past) we will be able to decal the car that fills in immediately on site when they show up. i will have my extras with me at all times during that final two weeks.

XScarAudio 03-04-2009 02:12 PM

Just a heads-up on me as an alternate...I work right near international mall and can leave as needed on that Thursday. And I'll be decaled already.

*crosses fingers on an open parade spot!*

SortaRican 03-04-2009 03:33 PM

never lose hope cause it aint over tillits over. we had a push for almost 10 cars last year with cancellations, people who did not make it in time and add ons.

if we activate the alternates list and people cant make it we will burn through it fast...

Hey Jax Group Decals -

Tim, Kenny, and I guess Bill too I see,

I haven't heard back from any of you regarding possibily meeting up late morning to mid-day this Sunday. Per my PM's with Tim and Kenny, that is the only time this weekend I can meet up and it will have to be done up at our subdivision pool/park area since Sandy has a big FCAT deal going on at the house all weekend (3 sessions each day). I need to hear from whomever is planning to make it Sunday so I can plan accordingly or we can make other arrangements. I know Kenny might just pick them up from my office next week or something - possibily. Just let me know your thoughts via PM or call me, whatever works but I'm on the site here and there so posts aren't the best way to get my attention quick fyi.

We'll make it work but I need to know your plans.

Thanks all,
Shay
