Default 4.57's

anybody know of a trusted shop that installs or retails the rearend (4.57). I've been searching and asking around at all the local spots on Sat. night and nobody's talking or does'nt know. any input on this would be helpful, i'm determined to have this done right. Tunerworks was mentioned but i've never seen their work on the street. C-ya at NOPI.

If 4bang6 is looking for a good gear-man (mechanical), why would he go to a body shop?

Haha

Go to 2nrwerks, they will hook you up. They were talking about a possible group buy on the housing with the gears already installed. If they are up for that I would be in.

They should just get a spare pumpkin and rotate it though. I'd be up for this maybe. I've always heard about the whine from the gears. That's the only thing holding me back.

Jim you should get Beetle gears I can get to 46mph in first gear Who needs a sixth gear? How often do you use that anyways? I miss my little buddy Jim. Let's be friends one of these days. Quaker Stake is right around the corner from me....hint....hint!

There is a shop called "Just Miata" here in St. Pete that also does good S2000 work (they replaced Scott's engine and tranny) Since the gears are Mazda gears anyways it would be a snap for him. Most of the whining in the gears is caused by improper backlash settings. Find out the proper backlash for each gear setting and the rest is just finding a shop. Racerelated swaps out Mustang gears all day long so I'm sure they could do it as well. This would be something I would never trust a dealer with.

I just spoke with Todd at 2NRwerks and he is looking into doing a group buy soon.

PM me with interest and I will start a list of people who would be interested.

Jim tell me more about this rotation thing you are talking about??

I have a customer scheduled late this month for the gear change. I will post some pics and do a write-up and info for others wanting this done.

Group buy . . . Stay tuned.

I am looking into doing the swap with a core that I am trying to aquire. If this happens, JVrabel, VVS you guys will be in. I will take your pumpkin as a core and give you the new gears, kinda a quick install. The other way takes longer.

The gears do make a bit of noise naturally because of the low ratio, but a whine tells me that it is not shimmed properly. This will lead into problems.

Don't let unqualified shops do this swap. If things go wrong, will they back up their work and replace the worn gear???

Ha, Ha. Hacked your password again Rob.

On the positive side, if I keep this up, your PPD average will stay above 3.0.
