Down towards the bottom, maluch says ap1's aren't supposed to burn oil.

Everyone I've spoken to and everything I read leads to the general consensus that AP1's have the tendency to burn oil.

Am I off base in my response to him?

I think you are correct but some people just dont get it. There is a difference between a car that uses oil and burns a little. It's not like Ap1's have blue smoke coming out of the tail pipe all of the time. My Ap2 doesnt burn hardly any oil but after a 2k trip to the Dragon and beating the hell out of it it does use a quart but that is under those conditions

ap1s will eat some oil...you wont notice it until you go to check the stick after 5k and see it below the last x which = no bueno.

check you oil at least once every second gas fill to keep an eye on it

no need to starve #4 cylinder on purpose

I only lose half a quart every 4000 miles. I have a 2000 AP1. I don't VTEC very much just daily drive it on the highway.

Ap1 motors burn oil quick depending on how you drive it. If you dont check it on a reg. basis, you may blow your motor frm oil starvation. 2 of my friends did.

I make it a habit to keep a quart in the truck and check/ add before I take it out or fill up, (which is rare). Better to be safe than sorry.

I agree. And if you don't get in vtec, what's the point of owning the car? lol. It makes like 50hp until you hit vtec.

but, that's where the burning occurs.

They aren't supposed to burn oil in the same sense of rotaries, two-strokes, and diesels are by design, but as any high-revving DOHC Honda engine, it will burn oil the more you use it.
