Default Amelia Island?

To those in the Jacksonville region,

I may be attending an "Agile Programming" conference at a resort on Amelia Island on the 11th and 12th of March and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to places to eat or things to see while there. If anyone is interested in meeting up, once I know that I'll be going, I'll let you know my schedule.

I plan to drive down and hope that temperatures are good enough most of the way for the top to be down!

Just returned from a 4 day fling to NE Florida, including a day on Amelia Island. It was very pleasant but quiet on a mid-February Sunday. All the dining action seemed to be at the Mariner's Restaurant right across from the Fernandina Beach docks....locals were packin' the place. There was also a nice looking Waterfront Cafe right on the water...soon to re-open for the season. If you're looking for lunch, there's a neat little spot called the Tomato (something) ...entered thru a gift shop on the main street. The old part of town is a 55 block Historic District...a nice place for a walking tour. The main other historic spot is Fort Clinch, just east of the town....great spot for an hour visit to learn about the French/ English/ Spanish jousting in this area.

Didn't have the S2000 (flew to Jacksonville) and did not see a single one in 100 miles of Route A1A, as far south as St. Augustine. The main treat was a BMW Z-8 on the ferry from Mayport....and spotted later parked on the main street of F.Bch. It was silver/black like my S2000, so I explained to the wife what a bargain I had at 1/4 the price Here's hoping some real FL folks chime in with some tips, so you don't have to depend on tips from a fellow Northern tourist I'll be interested to see if there ARE any S2000 in the area.

I've never been to Amelia Island and am not very familiar with what is up there. To my knowlege, there are not any active S2K owners up that way. The week you are going in March is "spring break" time and I image their will be plenty of activities available. If you can, come a day earlier, drive down to Orlando, and join us in a "run through the country". There are lots of turns and elevation changes. We always have a blast!

I'm a North Florida S2K owner, black on black. Amelia Is. is a very pretty area of FL but not one for "hot spots" depending on your age and interests. It's more the upper crest, older, crowd but VERY nice all the same. If you're wanting more of the nightlife and don't want to drive too far I'd head to Jacksonville. Depending on your route and area of Jax you want to hit you're only looking at 45 - 90 minute drive. Overall, I would head to Jacksonville Beaches (Atlantic, Neptune, Jacksonville and Ponte Vedra Beach). Most of the action the last few years the nightlife has centered closer to Jax Beach. Tons of bars, clubs, lounges, etc. All types from dance to yuppy. If you do mapquest or something look for the intersection of Beach Blvd and A1A (also known as 3rd Street). That'll get you close to the majority of the action. Most of the bars, etc. are scattered all over 1st and 2nd Streets in that general area. You could probably park near Joe's Crab Shack, Baha Beach Club/Bukkets, the Ritz, the Atlantic, etc., etc. are all in that general vacinity.
If you're looking for something more small town, historic, touristy, I'd head a tad further south than Jax (30 more minutes or so) to St. Augustine. Lots of little shops, b&b's, historic fort, carriage rides, etc. My wife and I go there a couple times a year to relax.
As far as the weather and dropping the top, it's been a tad too cold lately even with the heat cranked. It did start warming up today and we're suppose to be in the 70's and 80's through the weekend with pretty clear skys. We better because I just had the car cleaned today. Drop the top and take a cruise to Jax Bch or St. Augustine. Heck, cruising around Amelia is nice too if time doesn't permit. Nice area but not much to do depending on your taste. It's quite though, very quite.
Hope that helps from one 2000 owner to another and from someone who actually lives in the area for 20+ years. Have fun.

Too bad you can't get there this weekend. The Amelia Island Concours de'Elegance is March 8-10. Look at: http://ameliaconcours.org

You already had your visit? I thought you said it was next week in your original posting???? Sorry for the late posting. I just discovered this board. I'd love to get some North Florida S2k's together. I don't think there's that many in the area. I can literally go a couple months without seeing one on the road. They are popping up more and more though. Nobody has done any mod's to them other than one white with the front spoiler. I've added 17's and the spoiler will be on once it comes in (next week?).
Well, glad you enjoyed your trip. I don't know what the weather was like for you but I bet it was warmer than PA. See ya!

You're getting us "more Northerners" confused. Ags2k is from Richmond (technically a Southner ) while I'm from Philadelphia area. HE is the one coming down next week....hopefully he's still following this thread to get your tipz. My wife and I just made a long-weekend trip to JAX before Val-T day.

We saw the big HOnda dealer on the main loop road (Rte. 9?) coming from the airport, but also did not see a single copy of our l'il Screamer Is that the main Honda dealer in JAX....and I wonder how many he has sold
