Default Ap1 ecu in an Ap2?

If someone were to...lets say... put an ap1 ecu into their ap2, would it be plug n play? Would I be able to just switch them out, and walla'? Would my keys still work and all that? Or is there something special you have to do?

You have to take the ECU to a dealer to be programmed, along with your keys, and then put in your car. If you do a search in the under the hood forum there is a huge topic started by billman250 with all the info.

Well that sucks! It is supposed to be a secret. All mods should be secrets until something breaks, then comes the stock stuff back on, and the car goes to the dealership

Don't forget about the 2.0L vs. 2.2L difference... ECU ain't gonna be able to handle that well at all.

Why would you want to do this?

I believe it's so you can get the higher redline and maybe it's tuned a little different, but I'm just going on information I read a long time ago so my memory may be rusty.

LOL there is a reason why the AP2 has a 1000rpm lower redline. You put a AP1 ECU in there and I promise you your mother will not last long. A short stroke can be pushed faster than a long stroke. The sweep of the rods is less which puts less sideways pressure on the pistons on the up stroke.

but, there has been success with switching the ECU. The longevity has not been thoroughly tested however.

Keep in mind, that the clutch slave was also put in the AP2. I believe that Honda's engineers made the cars better on warranty issues when they built the ap2. I also believe that the 2.2 liter can handle a higher redline, at limited intervals. This engine has been over-revved numerous times without serious consequences.

That said, I have not made the switch. but I have my eye on doing so.
