ugh ... just finished setting up my mom's new PC ... her other one had a bad power supply in it. She took it to Best Buy (Geek Squad) and they wanted to charge her $130 for a new one. I told her to do it (i was feeling lazy, sorry) but, instead, she just went and purchased a new Dell.
Oh well.
But, wait it gets better. She brought the old computer home and guess what i find ... the heat sink/fan is dangling and the processor is missing! Thanks so much Geek Squad. I went back with her today to see what they would say.
As usual ... they don't think it was 'their guy'.
On top of that ... the new Dell has a SATA drive in it ... the old PC has IDE drives
. I told her to take me with her to make sure things like this wouldn't happen ... but you know how stubborn parents can be
The Geek Squad wants another $150 to do a data transfer and they wouldn't be able to finish it until MONDAY!
So ... i purchase an internal-to-external hard drive converter (for $21) from Circuit City online to pick up at the local store. We get there and they say '... we're sorry but the one you ordered is out of stock. But, we'll give you the better one for the same money'. Sah-weet ... no, wait. The 'better' one is only for SATA drives ... not IDE
And the other 2 closest stores are out of them too!!!
Back to Best Buy. Their cheapest converter is $65!!!
I buy it just in case we can't find another one. But, i go right next store to the brand new Staples ... they have one for $41! I'll be making one last stop at Best Buy tomorrow and will be happy to fill out a comment card

oh ... yes, my mom has to have her computer up and running ASAP. It is her business computer and she's already been on vacation for over a week just to come home to this. So, any other time i'd be ordering stuff online. Oh well ...
Sorry ... ranting is over
