I'm willing to sacrifice a little bit of grip for $15-$20 less per tire.
With that said I say you should get the Star Specs. Because technically, you are getting the MOST grip for less money.

See this test for details: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...y.jsp?ttid=107

Although it doesn't test the XS or RE-11, it kills the RE01-R and that alone says enough to me.

Not to throw another variable in, but, even if the Star Specs are 'grippier' than the RE-O1R's, a person needs to consider tire life.

I wonder if any Star Spec owner has put as many miles as I have on my RE-O1R's, along with the number of track days/autocrosses etc as I have.

I'm a Star Spec and RE01-R owner, and although my star specs aren't completely shot yet, they seem to be lasting longer than the R's did. Plus when I did the GIR track day, my RE01-Rs up front started peeling like oranges all over compared to my Star Specs in back which only started peeling/scuffing on the sides. BTW my star specs in the rear replaced RE01-Rs when they were done.

that's a good review. Now just try a set of XS's and let us know what you think

At that rate you and Willie Gee may want to get some sponsorship from Tire Rack!

Hehe I allllmost bought those XS' from Jeremy that he is using.. 275 in the rear and 245 up front.. I got spooked though from the possible side effects on running those on AP2 wheels.

I need new front's as I am running Falken Azen1s and hated them.

There are sick deals on the RE01's right now and will probably go with them over the Specs. I'll let you know what I decide on and how they feel..

I'm running 245/40/17 rear and 225/45/17 front. Should I stay with those sizes?

From running tires 1 size past the maximum recommended width on a 8.5" and 7" wheel

your handling will be a little sloppy, but those tire sized will work.

I like 225/255 myself and the star specs unless you can get the REO1's for less you are wasting your money
