He only has tires for the rear. Is it horrible to replace just the rear? The front are about 50-70% tread I'd guess.

That how it normally is with the S2 you go through two sets of rears in the time it takes to go through a set of fronts.

My concern is the mismatched types though.....i'd be running RE050 front, RE01R rear....this will cause more understeer I've been told...but i wonder if it is liveable or will it be blatantly annoying

Anyone? If it isn't gonna be horribly noticeable understeer I'll snatch up a pair...but i don't wanna totally screw up the balance of the car

I am not a big fan of mismatching tires to begin with but even so, I wouldn't do it since the RE01R is a SIGNIFICANTLY more grippy tire. I drive pretty aggressive at times and would definitely notice if it was paired with a 050 tire in the front.
