Jillian and I saw it today and I think it's worth seeing it in a theater with REALLY good surround sound. Not a fan of the handicam cinemagraphic style, but the movie had great sound editing/effects.
I think that the handicam style is designed to lend an air of believability to an otherwise unbelievable story. There is another reason for doing it: it keeps production costs down. I heard that the total budget for the movie was about $30,000,000.00 which is quite economical for a Hollywood production. I thought the movie was overall pretty good...not great.

Did you see the trailer for the new Star Trek movie in December? The director of Cloverfield is directing that movie too.

JJ Abrams is directing AND producing the new Star Trek. He was only credited as Producer on Cloverfield, Matt Reeves was the director. That would really suck if they did a Star Trek film in Blair Witch Handicam
The preview looked pretty decent.
The lead actor from Shawn of The Dead is playing Scotty I heard.

Thanks for the clarification. I don't get too much into movie producers and directors so thanks for keeping me straight.

I'm not really either but my wife is a bigtime JJ Abrams/Lost fan for some reason... Since I am currently unemployed, I get to read up on all sorts of useless minutae.
