Default Contact solution may cause blindness!

The AMO Complete Moisture Plus Multi-Purpose Solution has been recalled, and I have a case of the stuff. AMO will replace it for free if you call 1-888-899-9183. My eyes hurt just thinking about it. Bacteria survives in the bad solution that may lead to an opthamalogically opportunistic parasite (amoeba) known as Acanthomoeba.

My sister works for AMO and just got back from their manufacturing facility in China.

OK....Microbiologist hat going on now.

This is serious!!! Acanthomoeba is a parasitic protzoan, not a bacteria. Antibiotics work against bacteria, not against amoebic parasites. The drugs to cure amoebic parisititis are almost worse than the disease itself.

Please heed the warning on this rare type of contamination.

Went and checked my wife's solution. She definitely didn't want parasites in her eyes.

Thanks for the heads up.

HOLY @#$%!!!! i've had a random eye infection for the last week!!! normally i get inflamations from falling asleep in my contacts, but this time, my eye was in serious pain for no reason. I'd change the contact, change the solution, flush my eye, and still... it was irritated, was running constantly, and felt like there was someone poking it with a long stick. and now i read this?? i didnt wear contacts in the infected eye for 4 days now, and it seems to be gone. i called the number you listed (which btw, WG got wrong.. its (888) 899-9183) and i'm getting new solution, but what do i do if i go blind, or keep getting this infection? who do i have to find, so i can kill em?

Lena, get rid of the contacts that were in your eyes, the case you stored them in, and all the bad Solution.

Do you swim with your contacts in or take a shower with them in? The ameoba does not live in the solution, but it does feed on bacteria that the AMO Complete Moisture Plus Multi-Purpose Solution does not eradicate. There have been less than 50 cases of infection, so chances are you haven't got it. But it is better to be safe than sorry. See your eye doctor.

I'm a bit lysdesic sometimes. Sorry about screwing up the phone number. It has been corrected.
