Custom Oil Pan Mods...
Well, this is a case of "while its out, may as well do it"...
We were talking about the pan today while the motor was going back together, and its lack of any real baffling inside of it.... so i decided to change that, and at least add in a couple of panels to aid in keeping oil in the pan. This is especially worrysome to me with the new tires, and the potential side-load g-forces that this thing might see, and i really don't want it to run dry again for ANY reason.
So, i grabbed the pan, and some sheet aluminum, and began making the panels...

Then, once i had the panels trimmed, i welded them in place...

What do the baffles do?
John ... i've even seen some 'louvers' used in the baffles in an effort to make gravital flow easy and lateral flow more difficult for the oil. Just another idea for you to think about

with as much surface area you have in your baffles ... it may actually suspend the oil a little longer than natural return rate. Not sure because i can't see the rake angle you have on yours. Looks good though ... and great thinking considering the loads you look to be generating with all those 'rubber donuts'

Get it...baffles...confuse you...get it.
Com'on...that WAS funny.
They keep the oil from sloshing around.
Nice job, John. Are you going to put a fuel cell in the car too? Or make some mod to the fuel tank to prevent fuel starvation? Or just run with a full tank?
Scott & John: Yes, the baffle on the right side of the pan is level with the ground, and the baffle on the left side of the pan is angled the same as the motor... so the drain-back is pretty good. Thats also a reason why i left a gap between the two baffles... to allow better drain-back.
negcamber: for right now i'm going to just run with more fuel in it... i'm thinking about building a cell for it, but i'll probably wait until i convert it for SM2.
