Default Driving School

Not that any of us need any lessons but the First Coast BMW club sponsors a safety school once a year. The do several drills that really help you experience your vehicles limits and learn what to do when the limits are exceeded. The wet skid pad is particularly interesting.

It is done at the driver development center in St. Augustine. I believe you autocross guys should be familiar with the facility. The cost is reasonable and it's a fun day.

I haven't been since I got the S but I'm hoping to make this one.

I've been on that skid pad when it was dry I definitely want to see what it's like with a little bit of water on it. I just may be down for this, can't confirm as of yet.

Hrmmm....

I think some of have already experienced sliding in wet pavement recently.

I'd love to do this, anything to become a better driver.

I'm not sure if Howard will be there or not. He didn't make it to the last one I went to. Assuming we are talking about Rhino Motorsports Howard.

Regardless, it's a good day and money well spent in my opinion. I'm hoping I'll be able to make it as well.

It's a lot slipperier! Especially on the edges...

Price seems pretty good. Normally from reading their add I would have assumed it wasn't really designed for enthusiests, but with a member's endorsement I suppose I will check it out if the schedule permits.

I wouldn't say this school is designed for enthusiasts. It's probably geared more toward beginers. However, having done it before it places you and your vehicle in several accident avoidance situations that you don't normally encounter. This is good because it teaches you how to react and how the car will react given different driver actions/reactions. I learned from it...and I consider myself a pretty fair driver with good instincts.
