MJ was a mediocre talent, no more/no less. Other than the "Thriller" video-he didn't change music at all. He was not even close to having the impact the Beatles had on popular music (or even Elvis). Nobody strived to become MJ musically-as people/bands tried to do with the Beatles/Elvis/Prince etc.

His music wasn't ground breaking.
