Default Fatal Crash in St Pete

Just putting on the news this morning, Channel 13 FOX and the showed a crash scene with a white S2K that was speeding through a red light near or 38th Avenue. Driver was ejected and died at the scene, the pasenger also critically injured. This came on about 7:10 AM (Sunday), might be back on around the same 8:10 AM time frame in a few minutes. They did give the name but I don't really remember for sure what was said.

Anybody know anything more about this.....or who?

They just showed it again, less exposure this time. 38th Avenue & 50th Street, they say happened around 1:30 this morning. No name was given this time but they did at the 7:00 segment.

Driver Dies After Running Red Light, Police Say
By Josh Poltilove of The Tampa Tribune

Published: October 28, 2007

A St. Petersburg man died this morning after his 2003 Honda lost control and crashed on 38th Avenue North, St. Petersburg police say.

Jonneth Correa, 20, was riding west at a high rate of speed when he accelerated even more to beat a red light, a St. Petersburg police release states. The Honda ran the red light and lost control after going airborne crossing an intersection.

The Honda struck a center median, then slid sideways and hit a city water meter, the release shows. Then it hit a tree and spun counterclockwise.

The driver's side door opened, and Correa, who wasn't wearing a seat belt, was ejected, according to the release. Correa, of 3762 18th Ave. N., struck the side of a building at 4957 38th Ave. N. Then the Honda struck the building and him, killing him instantly.

His passenger, 21-year-old Daniel Cronin of St. Petersburg, suffered minor injuries. Cronin was treated and released from Bayfront Medical Center.

No charges have been filed, and investigation continues, according to the release.
