alright kids ... help me out here. I purchased some of this stuff a little bit before thinking about what i wanted to to. I'm silly like that .. or stupid. lol. Now ... i just want it out of my garage. I may be moving soon and need to not try to store this stuff.
Everyone tells me this is an HKS Hyper - i bought it used so I don't know. $500 OBO.
here's the pic with the welded-on badge:
An AEM intake (no ... not the V2) also used: $150 OBO
2 Cooper Zeon ZPT tires: 225/50 16. Less than 1000 miles. $100 for the pair.
I also have a set of painted 2002 TSX wheels with Michelin Pilot tires (15% tread left) also looking for a new home in case you guys know of anyone just let me know.
I can deliver this stuff within 100 miles. So, all you Jacksonville, Orlando, and Tampa folks I would happy to meet up with. Of course Thursday night I can easily be tempted to meet in Orlando. lol
The incentive for the sale of these items should be well known ... all you lushes. lol
Bandiscoot: Look at the tips of the exhaust. They should be etched with the HKS hi-power logo
if not then it may be a knock-off
BTW, I had this setup and I believe it to be the best sounding exhaust for those who want a pronounced sound in vtec but little or no drone and a stealthy sound in low RPM.
IMHO the best overall sounding exhaust of them all.
There are no etchings (that i can see) on the mufflers. It could very well be a knock-off. I have no idea. Anyone have a pic of a HKS Hyper knock-off? I'd like to verify this either way. I don't want to promote something false.
As for the 'incentive' ... it's in the message as 'you lushes'. I don't mind buying drinks for the group on occasions. I don't do it all the time just because i don't like to promote drinking and driving. But, one social drink during dinner is cool with me (yes, Cheryl and I are VERY social drinkers! lol)
the etched logo should be on the side of the tips themselves and they are fairly large but not deeply cut into the metal.
It should look like this:
BUT they may have stopped doing the etching there in recent years. There should be some kind of trademarking on the item somewhere though.
If it is a knock, it looks like a decent one, but you cant judge the quality until you install it and hear it, and feel it. I am sure they did not make a perfect replica.
Good luck, if you find any other markings - post a pic and I can help you find the maker and some pricing to base your asking price off of
I was going with the premise that if the canisters are not the same then the tone quality and performance would be lacking. Tubes are tubes so they cant really go wrong there (unless they are using welds instead of mandrel bends) the resonator looks well copied so not much issue there but the sound and performance can change greatly with the the design of the canisters IMO.
So that was my only concern
EDIT: I just re-read your post Jeff and you were asking why knock off an already bad design, right?
In that case I don't know. I thought you were asking me why would a knock-off be a worse design than the original.

Thanks for all the info fellas. That makes me feel a little better. I've also heard of several companies, in an effort to cut costs, stopping the laser etching process. I think the etching is hard to see anyway and a friend of mine said the process has a high error rate on non-flat surfaces.
