Default Hello from Vietnam

I have the opportunity to visit Vietnam for 2 months. While here I have nothing better to do than make videos and practice the art of gluttony. I hope you guys enjoy the video attached

I am assuming that you are a Vietnam War veteran. If that is so, I salute you for your service

Vietnam has changed quite a bit; but under communist regime, the disparity between the rich and the poor grows greater and greater every day.

The poor couldn't get any poorer than they were in those days. At least not in the countryside and mountains.

BTW, we were winning when I left.

Chuck I agree with you, I was stationed out of DaNang from Dec69 through Nov 71. I traveled up and down the coastline and the central highlands on the end of a helicopter; I have many good and bad memories of my time there. You are right, this is not the Vietnam I remember.

Parts of the country look pretty prosperous to me.

The area I spent most of my time in was jungle along QL14 and QL14C at a place we called Duc Lap or Duc Mihn. Bon Sar Pa area. Dak Mil on Google Earth which shows the area built up with housing and several large commercial buildings. Not to mention the large lake that wasn't there nearly 50 years ago. Looks like resort houses on the lake. Some of the plantation areas appear to be growing as well. There was coffee north of QL14 and tea south (much where the lake is as well). There's a section of divided highway (not expressway) there as well.

Massive changes looking at the satellite photos. But then so are the changes in the area of suburban Columbus, Ohio, where we bought a house. Google Earth shows farm fields and no roads there 10 years ago!

Several members of my regimental association have visited but no one has been permitted in this area that I'm aware of as it's an active military area being right on the Cambodian border.
