I drove a new Insight yesterday.
it was alright. the handling really was not that bad, ive never driven a prius to compare though. really really slow though haha. the "preset gears" they give you in short mode is 7 speeds. its almost impossible to keep the glowing light green while accelerating from a stoplight, unless you don't mind people honking at you. the information display has a lot of cool info but i pretty much just left it on the whole flower power thing and tried to get as many flowers as i could haha. it is definitely a fit highbrid though underneath haha.
i did a 5 mile drive and averaged 40.x mpg, also $7 of gas gave it like 167mile range (so it says)
I still think its pointless though. that exact same car with a diesel engine would get better millage and be faster, even with normal size tires instead of the dumb 175's they got on it.
but the price is good, the loaded ones we got are 21,9xx with wheel locks and all that crap its around 23. we are gonna sell a ton of them that's for sure.

Did you know the the EPA and he U.S. government will only allow import auto makers to bring 5% of the number of gas cars into the staes as Diesels. I found that out when I was with Kuhn , VW has a great diesel . The cars have a TON of torque and are very quiet 50 plus MPG hwy and with the direct inject VW uses they put out very very low emmissions .
$21 to $23K for an economy box is no deal
The few extra MPG you get over a more comfortable larger/faster car is not worth it to me.
Most new cars today get 30 plus MPG
Like it has been stated, diesel is the way to go. Back in the 80s a diesel Rabbit car or pick up could get 50 MPG
If you want a true gas saver and actually save money by not spending everything you would save ($23K) over the next 10 years, buy my 1988 Toyota Tercel
for $2,000 I got 37.88 MPG on my last tank of gas!!!!!!
When the bug was first brought over here wayyyyyy back in the day the car got 40 MPG. It has been 50 years since then I don't get the big deal about the cars they have today
The Insight, Prius, and all the other so called [B]

You love your S2000 and want to do your part to conserve fuel , spend around $1,000 and put a 3.64 gear in the diff, and keep your foot out of the throttle body. Do this and you will get about 33 to 36 MPG and look good doing it
I swung by Honda to take a look at the Insight too. I really like it better than the Prius.

as usual the gov't is doing its part to keep the 'big 3' afloat by not allowing or supporting the diesel imports. The Europeans are really on to something over there
What was the last big gov't push for economical/environmental automotive power? Oh yea, bio-fuels. I see that everywhere

I'm getting about 25mpg in the S right now and that is mostly with city driving. Not too bad considering the performance

yeah we got 3 also, i did a pdi on one so i had to test drive it. and a couple of the sales men HAD to ride along... i put some gas it in, get ready to leave the gas station and they both come out with fully loaded hotdogs. I'm like wtf? but didnt say anything but i should have cuz one of them spilt freaking mustard on the seat! im like are you freaking kidding me? our detail guy got it out but jesus man.
every new car i've purchased did NOT get PDI'd. I told the dealer that if there had been any driving by other than a delivery/port driver i would not buy it just for that reason (and the 'hot' footed sales guys who don't appreciate a good 'break-in' period.)
