Koyo radiator
I have a chance to pick up a Koyo radiator at a good price, which I hadn't given much thought until I saw Jeff's last night. Is there any advantage to running one here in the FL heat in a NA car? I am planning on going with SC next summer, hopefully, so I guess I'm going to need one anyway. I'm just wondering if I should bother with it now or wait until the SC goes in.
It won't hurt anything. I am not sure if it will help you run any cooler, but it has more capacity than the stock, which I'm sure you already know. If you can get a good deal on it buy it. You will need it later but you might not be able to get that same deal. The Koyo is more durable than the stock radiator too. It doesn't have plastic.
I say go for it. It will help cool a lot better then a stock radiator since it has more mass. You might not see it but during hot days or track days it will help out a lot. On my old Turbo 240SX my fans never kicked on when I drove on the highway and during the winter my fans never kicked on for a few months. I even sat in 20 minutes worth of stop and go traffic and my fans still didn't kick on.
My motor cooled down a lot after I put the Koyo in. Granted I have more to keep cool. If you go as planned with the SC it will help a lot during the summer.
Thats how I got mine. The guy was getting rid of it becuase of scratches on the top.
Just have about three gallons of the Honda Type 2 coolant when you install it. I took a little more than two and a half.

Thanks guys. I think I ran into a hitch with the radiator. It doesn't look to me that it'll work with the stock airbox, since the radiator is so much thicker. Does anyone know for sure if the two will fit?

^ Good idea. Thanks Matt.
I think I'm going to go for it, since measuring everything with a tape measure it looks like the stock airbox isn't going to be a problem. Is there a radiator cap that will fit this thing that I can get from NAPA/Autozone? I can't see paying a JDM premium for a radiator cap. I just want one that works.
Also, I've been reading up on the Koyo here and it seems that some folks have issues with leakage around the temp. switch. What needs to be done to avoid that problem - something simple like Teflon tape?

Water Wetter rocks too put some of that in too
i would aviod water wetter. i think water wetter is great if you use straight water or old school Prestone and water.
let's remember Water Wetter is basically soapy water. ie: dishwashing soap and water.
VERY Imprortant, don't forget, mix Distilled water ONLY!! do NOT use TAP water in your radiator.
not bashing the original poster, just my .02 worth.
