Default Moving to Florida??

Hi guys and girls,

Im in Pittsburgh, me and a friend might be moving to florida in the spring. I am looking into the Delray Beach area. If any one could help me out i would apperciate it. I need to get an idea of what the cost of living is, how much an apartment is, etc. I am hoping someone lives in the area an hopfully be able to send me a classified section of the local paper with housing listings. I am planning on heading down on Jan 16-19 to look around the area. Any help would be great.

I figured as much as everyone helps each other on this board, someone could give me some advice.
thanks

Go check out:

www.sun-sentinel.com

Its Broward County newspaper, it might help with the classified section. (Easier than one of us sending up the paper). Also you might want to check out www.apartments.com you could get an idea or look for something in your price range there.

As far as any other living costs depends what you want or need to know, feel free to ask specifically for what you are looking for. I'm sure anyone here would be more than happy to give you that info.

Here's the link to the Palm Beach Post. You can search the classifieds for Delray apartments.

http://www.palmbeachpost.com

Delray's not as expensive as Boca or West Palm (it's about midway between them). For a 2bdrm, I'd guess between 800 - 1200/mo. The nicer/newer communities are generally out west in Palm Beach County, with condos and high-dollar homes by the ocean. There are a couple bad areas in Delray, but nothing as bad as Riviera Beach (West Palm) or the bad areas in Miami.

There are some nice apartments near the ocean (with garages) in Palm Beach Gardens (Northern West Palm) that are probably about 1100/mo or so for 2bdrm. They were built a year or so ago, but many are still unoccupied, so you might be able to deal. Just North of US1 and PGA BLVD, if you want to check map quest. Not sure of the complex name. I can find out if you like. Good luck, hope you find something you like.

JVILS,
That sounds really good. if you could find out the name i would appreciate it. Also if anyone could find out the name of any Honda or toyaota dealers, or any import dealers i would be greatful. I will need to find some dealer names so i could send them a resume. I am currently a VW tech but i would rather work on japanese cars. any help would be great.

Thanks for all the help so far, everyone.

Ummm if I may ask, why not move to Miami? Miami is a GREAT place to live. You have the Grove, South Beach, the night life is awesome, the women... OMG the women. On the other hand, almost everyone is an ahole down here, especially when they are behind the wheel of a car. You will learn quickly to be a skilled and defensive driver. And the cost of living is a bit more.

I don't know of any dealers in Delray, but in Miami, there is Braman Honda of Miami. SC Suzuka (Chris) works there and he might be able to hook you up with a job.

MAV,
If i were the only one going I would, if I could afford it. However I am going with my friends, one is a Marine mechanic, the other is a dept. manager at Best Buy. If there are some best buys and marine shops/ marinas, I would appreciate if you could get me some names. At this point nothing is definate, we are just looking into areas still. We would like to go to a nice area with low crime, live in a relatively new place.

I am looking for any and all recomendations. I have never been to the beach in florida and i am kinda clueless as to where is a nice area. I have been told that the areas change very frequently. i.e. good area, 10 miles away its a bad area, and visa-versa.

There are literally many Best Buys in town and demand for marine mechanic is high considering many people are into boating down here.

About Miami being a hole, it all depends where you're at. YES, there are a lot of bad areas in Miami, as well as good areas (Coral Gables, South Beach, Doral, Miami Lakes, West Kendall, Brickell), just like any other big city. A lot of aholes driving around, but some are nice. It all depends which area you're at...

Going up north, the people are nicer and neighborhoods are quieter. I used to live in Fort Lauderdale for a bit, but I found it to be BORING for my lifestyle. I'm not a big "clubber" but I like to do a variety of things, besides going to the movies every weekend. Gets old after a while. Less than a year later, I moved back down to Miami, where the party is. And ohhhhh the fine women in Miami....

So you and your friends need to decide. Miami is more fun. Fort Lauderdale/Palm Beach/Delray is nice and quiet. Oh and did I mention all the fine women in Miami???
