First off I would like to thank everybody you have all been very helpfull. so heres my concern my friends s2k is only letting him redline at 8.2 rpm (he has an ap1) is it possible he is running an ap2 ecu?if so how can I tell?

 

The AP2 redline is 8000. That being said... I'm not sure what could be wrong with your friends car Sorry

 

Well being more specific fuel cut off is at 8.2 rpm

 

if it was an ap2 ECU it would cut out at 8000

 

Fuel cutoff in an ap2 is 8200.

 

check to see if there is a VIN plate on the engine to determine if the motor was swapped to an AP2, only way t otell if the ECU was changed will be to get the part # off of it and check the part #

 

Engine is an f20c1 just checked you think he might have an ap2 tranny? If so how can I tell?

 

AP2 trans would not affect redline or fuel cut.
First step would be to check the ECU.
