About two years ago, I purchased an ACT Stage 3 Clutch, 6 puck. Now, @ 30,000 miles later, my clutch is beginning to slip. This is weird because I thought it would last a lot longer. How long should a clutch like this last?

I tested the clutch by going about 40mph and putting the car into 6th gear and pressing the gas. Of course, the engine rpms increased, but I did not go anywhere. I'm pretty sure it is the clutch, but if you think it's anything else, please let me know.

If indeed it is a clutch, about how long of an install is it and about what should I be looking to pay for labor? When I installed the clutch last time, I was charged $580.00. Anyone have any suggestions on a shop that can do the install for a better price? Also, I need suggestions on the type of clutch to install again. I definitely do not want another heavy-duty clutch though.

You may want to clean and bleed the clutch master first to see if that helps.

 

Come by S & R Performance and we can see if it is your clutch. 20k doesn't seem like much.

 

If I bring it by, how much is it going to cost me and how long will it take? With all do respect, I do not want to bring it down there (about a 30 minutes drive for me)have you guys drive it around for 5 minutes to tell me it's the clutch and drop $40. I want to limit my driving as well.

I'm pretty sure it's the clutch though. I can't accelerate without the car revving up.

Oh and I did a bit of research, It probably has 30k on it. I replaced it in September 2007 and my car is sitting around 89k right now.

 

To clean and bleed, how much would that run? This just doesn't seem like it will solve the problem though. It really feels like an engaging and slipping issue.

Could the flywheel have anything to do with it? Because I still have the factory one installed.

Well there was this one guy that did it on jackstands and he did it all in 4 hours. This was his 7th time doing it. So I'm sure that rate is pretty much correct.

 

30k on a 6 puck sounds about right on my S and my old prelude my 6pucks last about 30-40k 40k if i was nice to it.

i would assume the life is shortened on having to slip the clutch more to get a smooth take off and not look like your trying to race at every light.

But i think im going back to a Full disc tired of things breaking and the other little issues

 

remember the clutch is always enguaged, and when you push in the pedal you seperate the friction plate from the pressure plate, so if your master or slave cylinder is leaking or low on fluid it stays enguaged, if they are sticking or hung up they wont allow the clutch to completly enguage, you might not know this is happening until the friction material wears down. I would first, inspect master/slave cylinders and do a fluid change. As for labor charges, book says it should take about 8 hours, takes me about 3 1/2 on lift, so depending on shop rates and if they bill by book time or real time will set the price, but $450-550 for just labor is about right, i would do the competition clutch with lighten flywheel, i have been very impress with this setup
